up with street gangs in a war over turf, drugs and cold, hard cash? Welcome toGrand Theft Auto 3. Big brother of previous outings on the PSone and PC,GTA 3has gone fully 3-D to bring the fictitious environs of Liberty City to life. This PC version is even better looking than the PS2 one was, with even more opportunity for flashy lighting effects, over the top explosions and beautifully rendered mayhem. This is silky-smooth stuff and the graphical details are truly awesome as you'll see the first time you carjack a taxi and take off like a lunatic, mowing down the innocent.Sonically,GTA 3cannot be beaten; in-car tunes are provided from one of nine radio stations, each with its own distinct feel, and the sounds of the city are all here too; walk around for a while and you'll hear far-off police sirens, motorists abusing one another and general chit-chat as people go about their business. The game is very open-ended. Its major focus is the mission-based goals--start out as a convict accidentally sprung from jail and work your way up to become a shining light in one of the city's controlling gangs. If that gets dull, hijack a cab, police car, ambulance or fire engine and carry out missions suitable for your mode of transport, and if all else fails, find the ludicrously dangerous-looking ramps and hit them hard for some big air and big cash bonuses. It has to besaid thatGTA 3fully warrants its 18 certificate, dealing as it does with mob warfare, indiscriminate murders, auto crimes, prostitution and more. The language gets a little "fruity" from time to time and you can't help but wince as you watch innocents get in the way of a good firefight. At the end of the day, though, this is a game and nothing more; thankfully, it's a good game, a very, very good game in fact, so buy it now. Or we'll send Luigi and the boys round.--Chris Russell

Advantages: Open gameplay/Original missions/Side missions/Fun is the emphasis of the gameplay here Disadvantages: To complete fully is very difficult indeed.

It really is that impressive and still to this day is an absolute must have if you enjoy computer games. The review will take account of the PAL version of this game.
Why is this game still great? It has stood the test of time as all classic games do. Others have tried to compete and just not been near it. For instance Driver 3 failed big time (annoying gameplay and glitches) as did The Getaway (flawed, felt rushed) and True Crime: Streets of LA (not nearly as fun as GTA).
Storyline: ***Spoilers*** The game takes place in Liberty City and we play with a character who we do not know the name of. You are betrayed at the beginning of the title by your girlfiend Catalina and are nearly killed. Then you go to jail. When on the way going on a routine transfer to Portland Island Penitentiary the vehicle is stopped destroying the bridge and you escape seeking revenge.
Gameplay: The major selling point of this game lies in its freedom. You can steal any vehicle you want whether it be a police car, sports car or a van and later on you can steal a tank (yes you read correctly: a tank) which explodes all vehicles you hit. If you feel like it you can just randomly hit people with your baseball bat or for the more extreme out there use an uzi or sniple rifle.
There is a great variety of missions available in the game. For instance you participate in street races, have to track down those who betray you as the game progresses, be careful of suicide bombers, and even shoot down helicopters. Avoiding the cops is a very key part of the gameplay. They get more agressive the more crime you commit. Lets say you start blowing up police cars and you can quickly get helicopters after you and even better if you can survive this SWAT teams come after you, then the FBI and then tanks.
There are some 73 main missions for you to complete as well as the excellent side missions. These include taxi missions whereby you pick up a customer and him/her to wherever they ask, vigilante missions where you become the guy sorting out the criminals, firefighter missions to deal with burning cars and the paramedic missions in which you take injured people to hospital in an ambulance. There is hours of gameplay in these alone. Then there are hidden packages scattered around Liberty City to be found as well as Unique Jumps (you have to jump over a certain object in a unique way) and Rampages (where you are supposed to kill/destroy a certain amount of something with a particular weapon) to be completed.
Critical comments: This will take you a while to complete. By complete I mean a 100% completion rating including the hard as nails Paramedic R3 mission.
If you are a person who has a problem with violence - avoid this game!!! For the rest of us a truly amazing experience is to be had.
Today the graphics may seem a little bit outdated. Furthermore there is the poor targeting system which means you will try to shoot at some one and miss invariably. Also the storyline is not the best. Yet when it comes to the GTA3 experience it really is the gameplay which matters.
Overall I would score this game:
Gameplay: 10/10 - a great deal that can be done in this game which is great to experience and really feels good when you complete. Great addictive fun to be had
Longevity: 10/10 - will take about 40 hours to complete 100% and then when you do that you can use some of the fun cheats in the game as well
Graphics: 7.5/10 - not the best out there in truth. Personally gameplay is more important than graphics but some disagree
Overall: 9.8/10
Hope you enjoyed reading my review. GTA3 is a true gem of a title. If you do not own it you should do so. There may be some people out there who would rather wait and buy GTA:San Andreas released in October. I would say to them that GTA3 is the original 3D GTA and deserves to be experienced. It also is very cheap and great value for money.
Advantages: Almost infinite freedom in the aptly name Liberty city Disadvantages: Rated 18 and may be offensive to "sensitive" players
...willing to do it?
Grand Theft Auto 3 was the first title in the GTA series to go 3 dimensional, and after viewing Liberty city in all its 3D splendour you will never even think of previous games! From the dodgy thugs on the street to shady dealers to the magnificent towering skyscrapers and stylish selection of hi-jackable cars, everything in GTA3 looks nothing short of fantastic. However, while the console version kick serious butt, the new PC ... ...listening to classic fm. Additionally, Grand Theft Auto 3 would not have the right to bear the name GTA if it didn't have a vast selection of weaponry to use, and there is tonnes of ammo for it too. Uzi's, shotguns, machine guns, chainsaws, knives, car bombs, baseball bats, and of course vehicles (perhaps stolen ones, or a tank, even better) can be used to cause infinite mayhem on the streets.
A worthy title to buy on any console, though you do ...

...of any of the previous Grand theft auto games or even if you just like car games then your going to love this game. Grand Theft Auto 3 is a 3D version of all the other Grand Theft Autos and is also in my opinion the best one they have made so far. I first got the game on pc but my graphics card wasn’t good enough so the game lagged, but with a few changes to the settings the game ran a little faster, then I bought it on Play station 2 and sold my ... ...are easily shot down.
Grand Theft Auto is rated 18 so you have to be 18 to buy it, which I don’t understand, the game isn’t that bad, there is a cheat you can type in to turn on gore mode which is quite cool, so instead of them just dropping down dead when you shoot them, one of their limbs will fly off and they’ll hop around for a few seconds then die and lots of blood squirts every where, the same happens if you shoot their head off. The first ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Way Too Addictive!
You wouldn't think that this game has an impact on females, boy; I wish I hadn't set eyes on this game! I first got to know about this game via my friend who lives across the road, Steven. Steven and me have been friends forever and I'm always walking in and out of his house and we hang out together and one night I couldn't sleep for some reason and I decided to sleep over at Steven's and as soon as he went to bed I was straight on the PS2 playing ... ...stay over there that night!). Since then I have been very hooked and my Dad recently brought a PS2 and since then poor Steven hasn't had the chance to have his game back! THE GAME:
The game itself is based on a non-fictional town in America called Liberty City and is made up of three cities: Portland, Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale. The character you play is a rough looking Phil Mitchell. Basically, the aim of the game is to go around and look ...

Advantages: Loads of missions, Load of violence Disadvantages: Some missions are too easy
Grand Theft Auto 3 is apparently the best game around at the moment for the Playstation 2 and definitely the most popular. I’ve only had my PS2 for around a month and have only played a handful of games so I couldn’t tell you whether it was the best but it IS an excellent game.
The game is set in the fictional city of Liberty. The city is divided into 3 islands and at the beginning you only have access to one of the islands. As you get ... ...islands. The gist of the game is this: You are a wannabe gangster who is available to do jobs/missions for different gangs around the city. The more you do, the more respect you gain and the more people want you to “work” for them. You get paid for missions once they are complete and use this money later to buy weapons.
The missions range from simple ones such as making deliveries to more difficult ones such as hijacking vans and wiping ...

...If you have played Grand Theft Auto 1 or 2, then this is more of the same but in 3D and several times larger and better - so you dont need to keep reading, just go and get it and cancel anything in your diary for the next few months. For the crim-sim virgin, read on...

The first grandtheftauto that was any good,
When I first played this I was amazed at the bang up to date graphics and game play I as we all were was used to the 2d tedious game play of the earlier games.
The graphics engine is a lot better although they kept what made the older games popular, and that was do what ever the hell you want! Same as the older games you run around shooting innocent people, Steal cars, and work for gangsters but this has the graphics to really drag you in to the world of liberty city, it was in my opinion the best game when it came out only being beaten by GrandTheftAuto Vice City, When they finally released it about a year later.
In the game you still play a mute like the older games the main character never talks, however this only creates room for the other characters and theirs lots of them ...
Advantages: fun, hard to complete Disadvantages: none
I have had this game since a couple of days after it came out and i think its better then GrandTheftAuto3 on the ps2, The graphics are superb for only a little screen and the sound is brill with some well known tracks on some of the radio stations which is a bonus. There are a range of different missions to do but they start off easy and get harder and harder.I would highly reccomend this to any1 as it would not be a waste of money.im looking foward to getn Gta Vice City Stories and hopefully it should be even better than this 1, if it is then its going to be very addictive.
Thanks for reading ...
Advantages: Is a great game, if this was the first Grand Theft Auto Disadvantages: It does not match up to its history
This was one of the most hyped games of 2008. GrandTheftAuto3 was the first major game for the PS2, and set the standard for all other PS2. It offered something new, graphics would good and the story was great. Then Vice City follwoed will fresh ideas, the ability to own businesses, have your own gang, and the new chooice in weapons was good. Then San Andreas the best Grand Thefo Auto game so far was released this was unlike any other game, San
Andreas explored a different world, your were in the centre of the action building a gang from basically nothing to controlling the whole island. Gang wars were introduced, food, GYM's, Casino and lots more. San Andreas could not get a bad review anywhere, it was one if not the best PS2 game released it had everything. Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories were also released but i like ...
