I've played the heck out of this.
Here's my thoughts.
Graphics - WOW! Its really beautiful. Massive and beautiful. The detail on everything is amazing. The little clever things like the foot prints in the sand on the beach or the man watering plants with a watering can. A person standing at a bus stop reading a newspaper.
The little things, that make the game great. The way if you want to steal a stationary car and its locked you put the window in with your elbow. The way you jack cars differently, depending on what you have equipped. With empty hands you might just assault the driver but with a gun, you might just threaten them.
The way, to do a drive by, you have to smash the window out from the inside.
The way you can wheel spin a car til the tyres come off.
The small improvements. Like climbing, run/sprinting, pushing people out of the way.
If you go too fast and hit a solid object,
you might get thrown through the windscreen (yes, i did).
The police wanted system has changed. There's now a radius you have to escape from, that police are scouring. The more wanted stars, the bigger the radius. Clever and easier to break. Switching cars, running down alleyway's, etc etc.
The aiming system is improved. Pretty much anything can be used for cover ala Gears of war/Rainbow six vegas.
The cell phone is cool too, keeping you in contact with bosses, friends, girl friends. You get texts and calls and you can change ringtones, wallpapers, etc.
Lots and lots of goodness.
I haven't yet tried the multiplayer.
The only thing i can say i dont like so far, is how slow the game starts off. Its not terribly interesting at first. BUt i think that might be due to easing in the non-gta'er's into the genre. Dont want to confuse the poor x box users, innit! (it is their first proper outing to GTA land, after all)

When you're on a mission you get GPS on your radar so you get a route, marked out in yellow, to your destination. If you make a wrong turn, its recalculated. Jack a posh, exspensive car and it comes with a Sat Nav, a woman or mans voice announces the turns you need to make. Usually too late (especially if you are bombing it along).
Scattered around the city there are 200 "flying rats" (pigeons) that need to be killed. Ive only found 2 so far.
The old stunt jumps are there, but rampages, secret packages and other bits are gone (as far as i can tell).
For some reason, you can do taxi missions, but not vigilante, fire or ambulance (although maybe its just too early in the game).
I went to the pub for a drink with my cousin and then came out drunk and hopped in a car. The fuzz were right after me and i had to tear ass to get outta there. Thing was, being drunk is very well done and i'm glad i wasnt drunk irl too or i might have puked.

driving along last night, at high speed, i smashed into a car coming the other way. The driver and passenger of the other car were promptly thrown through the windscreen and over the top of my car, screaming as they went. Nice touch i thought.
Sitting in multiplayer, waiting for pillockgavin, i found a car and thought that i hadn't tried to shoot the tyres out yet. Did it and they hissed satisfyingly, deflating with a puff of air where the bullet went in. I did it to all 4 tyres and got in, driving off. The tyres knotted up, then flew off. I was soon riding on the rims, sparks flying. Looked nice
Had a mission where i needed to get a police car. i thought "where the hell am i going to get one?" then i remembered. Dialled 911 on my cell phone and requested police. They came and i jacked their car, bombing it off.
in the rain, a man ran past covering his head with a newspaper.
I shot someone in the back of the head with a sniper rifle as they sat in their car. It killed them, tossing them forward onto the horn, which honked constantly until i went and pulled them out to drive off with my prize.
Managed to total a police car to the point where the engine conked out and wouldnt start again.
This game is FULL of stuff like that.

i liked this game too but found it was a bit dark which was annoying, i like in your review how you're listing horrible things like 'shot him in the back of the head, he made the horn hoot, nice' he he all the things you'd be in jail for we enjoy in a game! I used to like winding the girlfriend up , i shot her once and she just didnt speak to me for an hour or so !

Advantages: Great graphics and audio, excellent storyline, immersive environments, entertaining Disadvantages: Takes ages to install, new control system will take time to get used to
Advantages: Superb graphics, mass multiplayer modes, pure freedom, and excellent music/sound Disadvantages: Weak storyline, sometimes too realistic, and nothing to do when game is completed
Advantages: Arguably the best selection of games of any current console. Great HD graphics. Disadvantages: Hardware may still be somewhat unreliable. Lacks innovations specific to the Wii and PS3.
