It is about a school "Grange Hill" which is a Comprehensive school set in London. It follows pupils from the first year through to the 6th form and each series, has a new intake of pupils.
I remember in the early days, the opening credits had very crude moving cartoon pictures and great music. I don't think the music to the programme has changed much.
In the early days, the subject material was a lot more prim and proper than it is today. There was nothing of a teenage sexual nature, bullying, divorce etc. It was more of the general everyday lifes of the teenagers and sometimes the teachers too.
Does anybody remember Trisha - the mouthy girl, Tucker - slight thug, Alan - bit of a girly wimp. There were so many good actors/actressess that have gone for GH to acting especially in soaps (Eastenders mainly).
As the years have gone on, you have noticed the changing fashions, pupils learning to drive, parents relationship problems, pupils having girl/boyfriends, rivalry between other local schools, underage sex and babies being born, and bullying (very nasty in some cases). Ithink at one point a pupil had or nearly had a relationship with a teacher which was excellent.
It features more on the private lives of the teachers now too, and they interact a lot better with the pupils now they have things like a computer room and more after school activities. There are many funny moments in the show, when pupils try to blow up the science labs for example.
I think a new series of GH started this week. I must try and watch some of it when I can. I hope it will still be on in about 3 years time so my son can get the pleasure of watching it.
This must be one of the longest running shows on TV. It was created by the same guy who did Brookside too - don't know if he still writes on the show or not. For a while, they did repeat some of the very early programmes on BBC2 on a Sunday morning, but seem to have stopped this now.
Advantages: Pacy, intelligent and challenging Disadvantages: You tell me lol
This is a bit of a cheat I guess as I'm not here to write an opinion but more to solicit one. I've spent the last two years storylining and writing on this show and I'd be intrigued to hear from viewers of any age what they think. How's it changed? Do we (as is often accused) go too far? Are we contrbuting to the loss of children's innocence or providing a vital advice service to kids failed by their teachers and parents? What do you like about the ...

Advantages: good UK drama Disadvantages: can be unrealistic
Grange Hill is a long running BBC kids drama set as a Secondary school in London, its an old series and many famous actors/actoresses came out of it.
The new series of Grange Hill was so unrealistic, there was blackmail, teenage sex, autism, death, racism, pop bands and fraud come on these days in school none of these issues happen in one term! (at least!) The show was on at 5.00pm to 5.20pm this is quite a short timespan but it was on twice a week ...

Advantages: Realistic issues are acted out superbly by children Disadvantages: i honestly cant think of any.
Im a keen follower of grange hill and watch it everytime it appears on television and the reasons i watch this is due to the realistic storylines which appear in the childrens program.
Id just like to talk about the lat 2 words i put in the previous paragraph - Childrens Program. Ive been comparing Grange hill with other soaps such as Eastenders, Neighbours and in my opinion i feel that Grange hill is way a head of these soaps in the realistic storylines. ... ...put there by his mother and then gets free and is suddenly pushed off a bridge and then his mother loves him dearly yet again (please take note that these actors have been acting for years and years), then there is Neighbours - The Scully family's house is set on fire by a neighbour and then 5 days after all is forgotten and live in a lovely home and not a word about the house being caught alight by there next door neighbour (please note again these ...

Advantages: It has the Age to it Disadvantages: The new series isnt very good
...only 17, my era of Grange Hill was with people such as Arnie, Nathan and Colin. These characters ruled. The series before the programme faced a ‘revamp’ was a really good one, with the gradual discovery of the real identity of one of the teachers ‘Mr Deveril’.
Also a good series was the 2001 series in which school boy Ozzie tormented teacher ‘Mr Hankin’ throughout the series and made it seem like it was the work ... ...watch Grange Hill and Marvel at the Daring Storylines, which really can affect children in a good way.
Ciao readers – I really suggest that you no longer watch this programme, it may ruin your memories of fabulous characters such as the wonderful ‘Tucker Jenkins’.
Stay away. ...

Advantages: Funny, tackles issue-led storylines head on Disadvantages: None
Hollyoaks, also known as Hollywood-oaks because its the soap with beautiful people, has been running since 1995. Created by the great Phil Redmond, who also created Brookside and GrangeHill. Set in the fictional Chester Suburb, character Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) is the only original cast member.
Aimed mainly at teenagers and young adults, it has a fun side to it. It does however tackle some very issue-led storylines, some recent storylines being Sasha and Fletch's heroin addiction, Newts schizophrenia, The McQueen's surrogacy and Darren's gambling addiction. As a show it has grown from a small core audience to a very large audience, seeing it nominated for every catergory in the 2007 British Soap Awards, winning 3. At the 2008 British Soap Awards it won 6 of the awards, this itself shows the growth of the show.
