This story was about a wealthy kid named Joe who didn’t really like his life that much. One of them reasons was his Granny whom was the most evil Grandma ever and throughout the story she kills 2 innocent people and nearly killed her own Grandson. After many scenarios of Granny being unpleasant to her Grandson she finally gets him alone after the parents go out for a little skiing trip (just after Granny secretively killed the nanny and the gardener). She takes him to a hotel where there is an awards ceremony for Grannies (called the Global Granny Awards). After an old man hands out the individual awards which were as ridiculous as, longest time spent buying a train ticket, and older women came onto the stage. Meanwhile Joe was secretively watching all this. Then the old lady started to talk about a machine, called the Grannymatic Enzyme Extractor, which can turn Grannies younger. But they needed Joe so they grabbed him and tried to kill him but he was saved and the machine blow up and all the grannies died apart from one Joe’s Granny! You will have to read it to found out what happens next. If you enjoyed “The Witches” then you will love this book. This is a great read fit for kids around the ages of 8-13, with the emphasis perhaps on the male reader. The book includes many humorous moments and definitely deserves to be on your shelf. There are many aspects of weirdness throughout the book which most of the family should enjoy. The Granny in the book really shows the reader how Grannies should not behave, with her murderous ways, disgusting habits and her awful food, such as vile cream cheese. It also shows the reader how life can be tough for a boy even if you’re really rich. Also the author (Anthony Horowitz) has won a number of awards, most from his best-selling book Alex Rider Adventures. His other books include "The Falcon Malteaser", "The Diamond Brothers,"Crocodile tears" and many more outstanding books.
...Mr Lampy. When granny comes to stay at Thattlebee Hall at Christmas, as she has done for twelve years, Joe notices the household changes. Irma and Wolfgang are in a permanent bad mood, Mr and Mrs Warden drink a bottle of whisky between them, the heating is cranked up to its highest point and a photo of granny which usually resides in a cupboard under the stairs is placed on the mantle piece.
Granny does her utmost to embarass Joe, buying him a toy ... ...himself.
Tea with Joe's granny is anything but nice, she makes all manner of disgusting things. Green egg mayonnaise sandwiches, raw herring with vinegar, dry cakes and Joe's least favourite thing, a bowl of cream cheese.
Joe knew that his granny had something evil on her mind, and he was sure this would include him. Granny tries to get rid of Mrs Jinks. When things go missing at Thattlebee house, they turn up in Mrs Jink's room. Eventually granny ...

Advantages: Mysterious, funny Disadvantages: they may become scared of their granny!
Granny, a story that delightfully highlights the misunderstanding and mystique of grannies, and lives out every child's fear.
Joe, is rich and spoilt and hates his granny. She embarrasses him by buying him babyish christmas presents, and always gives him a sloppy kiss whenever she comes to visit. And why does his mum never use the good china when she comes?
Soon, when Joe's mother and father are away on safari (or was it Australia?)mysterious things ...

I thought that this book was amazingly similar to Roald Dahls "The Witches". Especially the part where Granny takes Joe on holiday to the granny hotel! ...

Twelve-year-old Joe Warden isn't happy. He has rich, uncaring parents and is virtually a prisoner in the huge family mansion, Thattlebee Hall. Worst of all, though, is his granny. Not only is she physically repulsive, she's horribly mean.
