Advantages Better for your family's health, durable, easy to clean, safer for the environment

Disadvantages You will wonder why your other frying pans don't have super non-stick qualities

At the risk of sounding like a walking advertisement, did you know that standard non-sticking pans are coated with PTFE, a chemical which becomes dangerous to human health when heated to 260°C or above? I knew about this years ago but I only really put some thought into it recently when I started weaning my baby. So it was out with the old pans and in with the new.

I bought this Greenpan on Amazon for £20 including P&P. Although this may be a steep price for a frying pan, I think it is worth it for my baby's health and for my overall family's health. Standard pans have been reported to cause various health problems in adults and even death to small animals when heated to over 260°C. This is not hearsay- the science behind the problem is well-documented.

As well as this, residues of the horrid PTFE stuff have been found in environments local to where these pans are manufactured and used. By avoiding PTFE altogether, the Greenpan is a really green, eco-friendly product.

When my Greenpan arrived in the post I was surprised by how smart and suave it looked. For some reason I had been expecting an 'alternative' looking item, nothing like a normal pan. I immediately tested it out by frying up some tofu. To my delight and surprise, the tofu swam in the pan, cooked well and did not stick to it even a tiny bit! The Greenpan uses Thermolon instead of PTFE to achieve non-stick quality, as Thermolon does not decompose at 260°C like normal non-stick does, and it does not release harmful chemicals either. When it came to washing the pan up, there was little to do, as the non-stick surface had stayed so 'clean' during cooking.

I have had this frying pan for several months now and it has shown few- if any- signs of general use. The frying surface is as non-stick as ever, in fact I hardly have to use any oil when frying most things now. I feel confident using it to cook anything for my little girl, and it is still really easy to clean too.

The potential only niggle with this product is that it is so non-sticky that it can be slippery at times, especially if you cook using a lot of oil. So, it can be a bit messy if you're not careful when moving fried foods around in it. That said, I have made some amazing pancakes in this pan, as they slide out of the pan so easily and therefore remain tear-free! And they leave hardly any mess behind. I wish I had known about Greenpans years ago- now I just need to replace all my pans with this brand..!
