Advantages organic, great tasting

Disadvantages expensive

I cannot fault 'Green and Black's' at all-chocolate that's organic! Beat that!

I'm a huge believer in buying organic and for christmas i got 6 bars of their choclate and 2 jars of their hot chocolate. Ok, that makes me sound like a total chocoholic! But they're so expensive so i only get them on special occasions!!! Sob, sob... :-D

Anyway, onto the subject in hand:hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is made by blending dark chocolate with raw cane sugar, and cocoa powder pressed from the same cocoa beans as the chocolate, to add extra intensity (to quote the manufacturers!) It has minimum of 60% cocoa solids so pretty good quality!

Perhaps the worst point of the drink is that it has to be made with milk instead of hot water. But isn't that a good thing? Well, it is if you appreciate an indulgent true hot chocolate but not if you're on a budget (face the facts, milk bought in shops isn't as cheap as it could be. My advice is buy a cow!) or you're milk sensitive, etc. Also, it's easier to just boil a kettle than gently heat milk. That just shows how much society has changed-everything has to be done in double quick time!

So, how do you make it? Add 4 teaspoons of hot chocolate granules to a mug and heat 250ml of milk either on the hob or in the microwave. Then simply add it to the granules. It doesn't clog up or have annoying little hot chocolate blobs on top of it. Instead, it has a creamy froth. It's not a very dark colour or sludge like. It's light brown and has a rounded flavour which is just lovely!!!

The hot chocolate is available in 300g jars. The label has the distinct 'Green and black's' trademark:basically, the posh looking font of gold text on black. Expect to pay around £3.00 for it though. Expensive, I know, but worth it.

So, would i recommend it? Definitely! As 'Green and Black's' say, "why does it taste so different? Because the cocoa plants aren't sprayed with chemicals." Think about it. Firstly, you have something that tastes like heaven, and secondly its organic. You ca't lose!

It is always better to buy good quality when it comes to hot chocolate. The instant ones you make with water are never quite the same so I wouldn't find making it with milk a downside at all. . Let me know if you update and I will come back and re-read. Fionaxx

Hi Aldanti, Im sorry for only giving this a helpful, I think it was well written and in a friendly style, and I did wonder seriously about giving this a VH, a bit more info eg on packaging and comparing to other brands would have earned a definite VH. If you add anything else, let me know and I will happily change the rating! PS the product is amazing and worth every penny! Lisa

Great op, tells me everything I need to know, including that it doesn't go in blobs - very important in a hot choc. K
