"They know how to rock!"

******************** Edited 20th March 2005 ************************

Greenday's Billie Joe (guitar, vocals) and MIke (bass) formed their first band together aqt the age of 14. From there, the band has gained Tre Cool (drums) and rocketed from the early 90's Californian punk rock scene to become one of the worlds most famous rock bands.

Through the years they have released many albums featuring a variety of songs from rock anthems to slow songs with a ballad feel about them. Their releases include:

1.039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours (1989) with first drummer Al Sobrante

Kerplunk (1992) It is here that major record labels became interested and the band signed with Reprise Records

Dookie (1994) which featured the singles Longview, Welcome to paradise, basket case and when I come around which stayed at the top of the American new rock charts for 7 weeks.

Imsoniac (1995) By the spring of 1996, this album had sold 2 million copies

Nimrod (1996) Nimrod is praised by many as the greatest album that Greenday have ever produced., selling 80,000 copies in it's first week. Good Riddance (time of your life) only made it to number 2 in the charts but still holds as one of Greenday's best ever singles. In 1998, the band won Best live performance at the Kerrang! awards.

Warning (2000) This album marked Greenday's return, almost 2 years after their most recent work. Minority, the first single of the album, reached number 1 in the American charts in 4 weeks.

International Superhits (2001) Is a compilation which contains all of their very best songs. Shenanigans of the same year features their B side tracks.

American Idiot (2004) is their most recent album, featuring fantastic tracks such as 'American idiot' and 'Jesus of Suburbia'. This album has received fantastic reviews and I personally believe it is their best album to date.

As you can see, their rise to fame has meant many great songs and fantastic albums along the way. Greenday are definitely worth remembering in terms of American rock band. You can find out more at
