I paid Green Flag over £160 a year for the highest level of recovery service they offer. This turned out to be useless when I had an accident.
They refused to recover my car without taking a £78 payment. This was because the car involved was not my main car, and therefore not insured through Direct Line insurance (Direct Line operate the recovery sevice under the name Green Flag). It seems my personal; 'any vehicle' cover does not cover any vehicle.
When the local recovery agent finally arrived they demanded a further £150 to move the car less than a mile down the road to my home. This charge then turned out to be £150 plus 17.5% vat. This fact was deliberately hidden from me by the local recovery agent.
Needless to say, the customer service representatives on the telephone were rude and unhelpful.
Avoid Green Flag and Direct Line at all costs.

Hello. I have green flag cover and have never had any problems with them. I have broken down twice and they have always sent someone out quickly and never had to pay extra. On the green flag website there is no option for 'personal cover' so can you give a bit more information about this? As far as I can see it's the named car that is covered, regardless of who drives it and not the other way round, ie. one named person covered for any car.

Wow thanks for the heads up!
It would probably have cost the same for you just to hire a tow truck!
Would be interesting to know what their different membership deals are though.I didnt know they were affiliated to Direct Line.
Advantages: May have a reasonable recovery service, but I've never had to use it Disadvantages: Eager to get your money, dishonest, don't honour agreements.
