Advantages: Beautiful building, The Mona Lisa, great collections Disadvantages: None
I recently took a trip to Paris and one of the things that I really wanted to see was the Louvre, or to give it it's correct name, The Musée du Louvre. The Louvre is the largest national museum of France, the most visited museum in the world, and a historic monument. It is a central landmark of Paris, located on the Right Bank of the Seine.
To me the building itself is worth seeing just on it's own as it's as beautiful inside as it is outside and a spectacle to be seen. According to an article I read the museum is housed in the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) which began as a fortress built in the late 12th century under Philip II. The museum opened on 10 August 1793.
On the outside of the building you will see the famous pyramids. The largest pyramid actually is the main entrance to the museum. which is then surrounded by three ...
Advantages: Really pretty courtyard Disadvantages: No provisions for immense heat
for a guidebook or something but I didn't want to pay out more. There was one really impressive room with incredibly large egyptian statues in it which I liked, but overall I wasn't overly impressed as I wasn't sure what I was looking at! The Greek art exhibition was good, it has a few English translations which was good but overall it wasn't amazing either. My view at this point however may have been tainted by my overwhelming desire to get out.
The main reason I wanted to leave was the unbearable heat. Due to the large numbers of people and the fact no windows are open or air conditioning in operation, the Louvre was just too hot. I think the windows were closed to possibly preserve the art? It may have been simply to try and stop people getting in without paying/stealing art etc. I don't understand the lack of air conditioning. Maybe it's not ...

Advantages: its the louvre for goodness sake! you HAVE to see it before you die Disadvantages: heating pretty poor, alot to see so need to really take time out for it
I went to paris recently with some friends for a little break. I was going to write a review on paris but as I begun it I realised it Impossible to sum up the city in a short review.. or even a long one. So instead I will write reviews of places I went and things I did while in paris....
The louvre sits proudly in central paris and has a history spanning 800 years. Built originally in 1190 as a fort to protect the wealthiest city in europe (known as christendom at the time) from invaders. It later went onto become a home to king;s and princes and in opened it doors as a museum in 1882 dedicated to art, archeology and culture from all over the world. We were stunned at the sheer size of this museum and it is only comparable in size to the Queen's Palaces I saw on a previous trip to Beijing. The glass pyramids which stands in the middle ...
