"Greenwich Market is Great For Hand Crafted Items"

Greenwich Market in South East London is renowned for its hand-crafted items, paintings and ornaments and a lot more besides. This sprawling market currently has around 160 stall holders dealing in glass, jewellery, ceramics, mens and ladies ware, pottery ,second hand books and rare records. Fancy a Henna tattoe ? Well there is a tattooeist at the market as well.

You have a number of options for getting there. If you are in Central London you could take a boat trip and get out at Greenwich Pier. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) stops at Cutty Sark, surface rail trains stop at Grenwich and Bus Nos 177,180,199,286 and 386 include Greenwich on their route.

Greenwich Market was established and granted a prestiguous Royal Charter back in 1849. The market has a great location by the River Thames and is near to many historic sites. Nearby you will find Cutty Sark, the Old Royal Observatory-home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT),the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Naval College. You can combine a visit to this babel of commerce with visits to intriguing attractions in this attractive borough.

All sorts of famous figures had links to Greenwich including King Henry VIII,Queen Elizabeth I, Lord Nelson, Admiral Hardy,General Woolfe,Henry Earl of Romney and author Charles Dickens.

If after an hour or two spent at the market you fancy some more shopping ,there are some interesting haunts in the vicinity. There is the classy Greenwich Health Food Shop, fine hand crafted items from the Middle and Far East at the Silk Route, great porcelain and glass ware at Greenwich Collectables and Greenwich Village Gallery is the largest art gallery in the area.

Fancy some drinks and good food ? Well there are delightful pubs like the Cutty Sark and Trafalgar Tavern and the River Cafe for economy breakfasts and lunches. The Meeting House is a popular, well patronised cafe whilst the Beachcomber Restaurant specialises in seafood dishes.

Greenwich Market is open from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm Mondays to Sundays and is located in Church Road. If you want to learn more about the market, its tradersand nearby sights there is an interesting web site www.greenwich-market.co.uk.

I strongly recommend a visit to Greenwich- there is a lot to see and do in this very fascinating, historic, enclave in South East London.
