-Firstly I have seen this Vodka on the shelf in my local Asda and I have always been mesmerised by the design of its bottle. If ever there was a product which I would buy simply based on its packaging then a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka it would be.

It may seem like an odd way to start a review on Vodka but I will begin by saying that I am not a very big fan of spirits and would sooner settle for a pint of chilled lager anytime.
So you may ask yourself why on earth have I decided to write a review on Grey Goose Vodka. Well there are actually three different reasons.
-Firstly I have seen this Vodka on the shelf in my local Asda and I have always been mesmerised by the design of its bottle. If ever there was a product which I would buy simply based on its packaging then a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka it would be.
-Secondly I have recently been presented with a 750cl bottle of this stuff and things always taste that little bit nicer when they haven't cost you any money
- Thirdly I was surprised to discover that no one else had reviewed this product and even more intriguing there wasn't even a Ciao category for it. That is why I asked the nice people at Ciao to add it as a product because when it comes to writing reviews I always enjoy a challenge
Finally just before I get onto the review some of you may be wondering about the strange choice of title for my review. Well it comes from the drunken mouth of a good friend of mine, Sally who recently asked for a glass of "That Gay Grey Groose with Orange" on a recent outing to my local Wetherspoons.
The Background
Grey Goose Vodka is produced in the Cognac region of France where it is produced from the same century old traditions that are used to produce the finest Cognac spirit for which this area is most famous for. The secret to the unique taste of Grey Goose Vodka is said to lie in the fact that it is made from the pure, natural spring water found in this region which has been washed down from the Alps and filtered through a porous limestone bed of rock.
Unlike most spirits Grey Goose is a relatively new creation and in fact it was only created in 1997 by Sidney Frank of the Sidney Frank Importing Company, based in New York. Sidney Frank's philosophy was simple, he believed that the American people were prepared to pay more for a quality product. Frank's reputation within the Industry was already established and he had become known as a "brand builder" with household names like Ancient Age and Dewar's White Label already under his belt.
And so on that day in 1997 Grey Goose Vodka was born, a new Vodka launched into the world with no history, no distillery and no bottling plant. In 2004 Sidney Frank sold the brand he had created just seven years earlier to Bicardi Ltd for over $2 Billion which is why today the 85 year old billionaire is listed amongst the top 100 richest people in the world.
The Packaging
If you haven't seen the bottle that this Vodka comes in then look out for it the next time you are passing the spirits section in your local supermarket or off license because it is quite unique. It is sold in 50ml, 375ml, 750ml, 1000ml and 1750ml bottles which all have the same design of a lightly frosted silver-grey bottle depicting three grey geese in flight with the French Alps in the background. Each bottle is handmade in a process which takes a staggering 30 hours.
The scene on the front of the bottle is blue and has been etched into the glass to give an optical illusion and a 3-D effect which makes you believe that the mountains are in the background behind the bottle and the Geese in flight are in front of the bottle. It is a fantastic trick of the eye.
Appearance & Taste
The contents inside the bottle is a clear transparent liquid which visually you could mistake for water if you ignore its aroma, but be warned because this Vodka contains 40% alcohol by volume which is equivalent to 80 percent proof and that's pretty much as high as it gets.
The first thing that you will notice when you pour the Vodka from the bottle into a glass is the aroma, it is by no means a strong smell but nonetheless it is very distinctive, but all the same quite hard to describe. I would describe the smell as quite sweet but with a slight hint of a burnt charcoal flavour.
The proof of the product is always in the taste but you just know that by the way that the product has been packaged it has quality written all over it. When it comes to Vodka I am not very experienced and always believed that this spirit was virtually tasteless which is why it was ideal to use as a mixer with Orange or other drinks. For the purpose of this review I did try a tiny amount of the Vodka neat, poured into a glass with a little bit of ice.
The taste was actually quite a pleasant surprise, it was quite sharp but very crisp and left virtually no aftertaste in the mouth. The hint of burnt charcoal is also evident in the taste but this is disguised by an aniseed flavour, which has just the right consistency, not too weak but strong enough to stimulate the taste buds.
My amateur opinion may not be worth much but I did find it to be quite a refreshing, pleasant taste. For a more professional verdict it is however worth noting that Grey Goose Vodka was the winner of the 1998 World Spirit Championships collecting a record breaking 96 votes out of 100 from a panel of spirit connoisseurs.
The Price
As I mentioned earlier the bottle in my possession was a gift, it had been bought duty free so I have no idea how much it cost but I have done a little bit of snooping around and found that a 750ml bottle of this size will cost you from between £29.99 to £35 which does make it very expensive.
Conclusion
A very nice drink but albeit a rather expensive one which is clearly marketed on its quality rather than price. My bottle will probably last me for the next ten years but it will certainly have pride and place at the front of my drinks cabinet.
Advantages: Tastes great and can be enjoyed in a variety of drinks Disadvantages: A little more expensive than most and hard to come by in the shops
I think I would go as far as to say I have not quite found another vodka quite like this one. With it's exceptional attention grabbing packaging and it's delicious taste, I've found myself, in my opinion, a hard to beat spirit. I'm not much of a spirit drinker but I do like to have a cheeky vodka every now and then, especially during the festive season., and have to say that this knocks the socks off of other brands I have tried. I recommend this ... ...comes to alcohol as it is a little more expensive than most other brands at around £30.00 for a 70cl bottle.
This tastes absolutely fabulous after it has been stored in the freezer for optimum chill factor. Add some Lemonade and a twist of lime and you have yourself a great drink. I first was introduced to this vodka in the United states where it can be found in a vast range of liquor stores and supermarkets but originates from Western France. The ...

Advantages: great taste and the most luxurious of vodkas Disadvantages: very expencive
grey goose is a fantastic vodka...if your not on a budget (in UK) if your outside the UK u may find a 3 litre bottle for around $50 where in the uk that would cost £140 ish. 75cl is around £30 in the uk.
the taste of this vodka is beyond all others (even ones in the same price region such as belvedere) Smoth crisp and no burn on the troat! the smell is light hinting a pure vodka that has been distilled several times.
best served frozern for 8 hours ... ...must add that grey goose has a better reputation of having little hangover effect, this is because the spirit is so pure its the closest thing to water!
grey goose is the premier of vodkas because its what we all see in Hello! magasine, its a special occasion vodka. ...

Advantages: Smooth & No Rubbing Alcohol Aftertaste Disadvantages: Expensive, But You Have To Pay For Quality
This is one of the best Vodka's on the market. Smooth. Almost like drinking water, with no rubbing alcohol aftertastes you normally get with lower quality Vodka's like Smirnoff. Comes from France. To be honest, a lot of people want to know how it's made, what it says on the bottle. Does it really matter that much? Whar matters most is if it tastes good.
Anyone can look up on the internet what the bottle says, I'm merely trying to let people know ... ...it.
Put it in your freezer for an hour, then enjoy in a shot glass either sipping or shoot it.
Also is really well in mixers.
The only downside is it is a bit expensive, but at least you get quality. If you are on a budget, I suggest getting a few friends to pitch on a magnum bottle for around $100.00 Canadian. $20.00 each for six people is much better huh?
I personally like Belvedere Vodka just a little bit better. i can't really say why, but ...

Quick review of Grey Goose Vodka
I have mixed feelings about this drink really. In comparison of taste, quite honestly it isnt noticeably better than absolut, and I always mix it anyway so the subtle differences are largely lost. Apparently Snow Queen is smoother and now more premium. Although the styling is slick, I find it hard to pay such so much more for image alone, especially when its a brand thats been downgraded. As the last reviewer noted you can buy it in Asda for christ's sake. Not cool... ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Grey Goose Vodka"
This vodka is a real, superb vodka. so far, i think right now, this brand is owned by an American Company, not a Russian company. the name however, clearly shows that it is indeed, 'very' Russian.
compared to the famous Absolut Vodka, i think this brand is much better. it has been rated before in the wine spectator megazine as one of the top 5 best vodka's in the world, and if i'm not mistaken, it's the best after world number one GreyGooseVodka. (hopefully it is as far as i can recall)
well, about the vodka itself, it is clear transparent , strong smelling, medium bodied, very fragrant(some might say pungent) smelling. the bottle however looks classic, as if the labels havent been changed in years!!
this brand, although the contents are excellent, they should have promotedthe brand itself to a higher level, just like absolut ...
Advantages: Pure, no additives, excellent taste & value for money Disadvantages: None

In 2005 Smirnoff red vodka was entered into a blind taste competition for premium vodkas (eg. GreyGoose etc) that was run by the New York Times. Smirnoff red vodka beat all the competition and won!

Advantages: good quality vanilla ice cream and white chocolate shapes, raising awareness about climate change Disadvantages: essentially an upmarket plain ice cream with nice white chocolate, bit sickly
.90 - considering it's only a 500ml tub this isn't quite value for money but come on... it's Ben & Jerry's! You pay more for GreyGoose than you do for Red Square, after all - and usually for good reason! Yes, I just managed to compare it to vodka - did you think this review would be without the booze references?
+ THE TASTE TEST +
I promptly abandoned the Boyfriend in the kitchen to put away our groceries after the nice Asda man came (and being harrassed about which bag the ice cream was in), and went off to indulge myself...
The little sweating polar bear on the tub and lid has a quote beside it - "If it's melted it's ruined" in reference to the global warming (quite clever too - I told you they were witty), and on the back of the tub you see the happy little cartoon moo-cows that adorn the Ben & Jerry's site (they love to shout about ...
