OK, maybe not. I've only just written about Carling beer - rather weak and gassy, in another opinion, now it's the turn of something stronger and classier!!
I'm not a great one for drinking lagers and beers these days - I used to favour bitter and stout but am now more inclined towards wine or spirits. However I do get to taste a variety of lagers courtesy of my boyfriend who is rather partial and doesn't stay overly loyal to any one brand/type.
I know two of his favourites are Stella Artois and Grolsch Premium Lager - so we'll examine the latter today! They do have impressive bottles I must admit - especially the larger sizes which have the trademark flip open top with metal clips. Whatever size bottle you opt for it comes in sturdy green glass emlazoned with "Grolsch" and their insignia on it.
We generally purchase the 275ml bottles as they are often on offer at Tesco for around £1 or less per bottle. Although this is a Dutch lager in origin the bottle states that it is "brewed in the UK for Grolsch(UK)Ltd" at Burton on Trent! This makes me a tad suspicious as this is where Carling is brewed as well!
Alcohol content is 5.0% volume and the ingredients are merely stated as "water, malted barley and hops" - no doubt there are probably hidden additives in there too?!
As with most, if not all, lagers/beers this is best served well chilled and has a very full strong flavour without being too gassy as with some cheaper lagers. For myself it is a little too strong to drink a lot of and I think it goes to the head quite quickly as it doesn't seem to take much to get my boyfriend quite tiddly too! I haven't noticed any nasty after taste, and, if you buy it in bottles rather than cans you don;t get that awful 'tinny' taste either.
Grolsch Premium lager is available in a variety of bottle sizes ranging from the little "stubby" bottles up to a great whopping one and a half litre bottle which my boyfriend arrived home with once!! It was huge, very thick glass and very heavy!! It is also available in the standard large can size (440ml).
So for something with a little more kick and a good flavour without being overly gassy this is probably a good choice.
