Now I am a fussy girlie when it comes to buying perfume. It has to be expensive, it has to be an eau de parfum, and you have to be able to smell me coming a mile away. I love dark, musky scents with hints of Indian Spice and incense. I just can't abide by fresh,fruity rubbish. I don't wish to smell like a bowl of pot pourri or a magic tree car air freshner.
I discovered this particular fragrance whilst shopping just before Christmas with my beloved Mr Fluff. Who was at the time sweating his nads off trying to think of what to buy his little fluffball.
This was when I found one of those open style perfumeries. The girl looked a little bored, so I told her what kind of things I liked and then made her run around spraying endless testers on to those little card sniffy things.I think she was quite incensed by the fact
that I told her everything smelt like toilet cleaner, cat wee, or my hamster cage when it wants cleaning out.
The suddenly she declared that this was the strongest fragrance she had. An pulled abottle off of the shelf and chuffed a spray onto my wrist. Hells bells! It was just lovely. Not content with the fact that I did truly like it I went home constantly sniffing my wrist.
I then had a bit of a trawl around on the internet to see if I could find it on there.So With Mr Fluffs credit card I bought myself a bottle.
Packaging..
Well mine came without a box, as it was cheaper.Ha! Yes I like to pinch those pennies. Anyway..the box is truly understated anyways. Its brown in colour with a simple cellophane wrap. It just has the words Gucci in small letters on the box. I was a little confused as the perfume doesnt actually have name. It is just purely Gucci Eau De Parfum
The bottle is just the funniest thing I have ever seen. Its all bottle and no perfume! Its a big square chunk of glass. Vey minimalist with no fuss or frills. One thing is that it weighs a tonne. You could'nt slip it into your handbag. You would need to de cant it into an atomiser.
Through the glass you can see the dark brown coloured liquid in a small compartment in the middle. The lid is also square which is almost suckered on to the spray cap. Its quite easy to pull off. But you do need to hold it with both hands and give it a fairly good tug.
For Gods sake don't drop it onto your tootsie..as you would probably break it. And it may even clonk a hole in your floorboards as well!
The Smell Miss Fluff??
I usually put one spray on each wrist, being careful not to rub them together as this crushes the scent. I also try to not spray it directly onto my neck as it can sometimes make it go crepey due to the alcohol content. I find three sprays is ample. You dont want to choke your man and friends.
Now the first thing that I can identify is the heady smell of Musk. Although a website tells me that there are notes of Thyme, Cumin, Vanilla, Orange Blossom and Musk.
The Musk is definitely the predomenant aroma here. But there is also an undertone of vanilla, but very slight. You would not say that it is a sickly sweey scent. Quite the opposite. The smell actually reminds me of a Summers night in Egypt.Its like a concotion of every incense that I have ever smelt. Its dark, and alluring, and I do think that you have to have a certain confidence about you when wearing such a heavy scent.
I must admit to not smelling any Citrus tones in this perfume. As it gradually wears off it does become somewhat lighter. And hence a little bit sweeter. But there is still the scent of musk, but a light musk.
I have only worn this scent at night. As it is just too strong and punchy to wear during the day. Dont worry though, folk wont smell you from a mile off. Its darkly subtle..!
Price and Availability..
This perfume is only made in an Eau De Parfum.Which is nice, as a little does go a long way. There is also no smell of alcohol, or stinging on any dry skin that you may have.
I purchased my 30ml size from Fragrance Direct for £19.99. This was minus the box. The same size with a box is currently on sale at Superdrug for £40! So if you shop around then you can really save yourself a fortune.
There is also a 60ml size available.Now I have just popped onto Fragrance Direct and they are selling this size for £19.99.However this is a brand new tester.So I am a little dubious.
Other sites that I have found this fragrance on are Cheapsmells,and Strawberrynet. My advice is to shop around on the net to find the best price.As you can really grab a bargain.
My Final Piffle...
I use my bottle regulalry in the evening whence visiting the local drinking establishments. And I still have lots of it left. I like the fact that you dont have to drown tourself in it to get a decent scent that will last all night. And it leaves a lovely delicate hue on your clothes until the next day. Well amongst the fag smoke.
If you enjoy dark, moody scents then this is for you. If you like frilly flowery scents then this will not be your cup of tea. But I love it, and it has become a firm favourite on my dresser along with all of the other millions of products.
It just has to lose a star for the bottle being like a dunbell.
