In this review I will be reviewing the 2.5 oz bottle of Gucci II seen on the picture. Obviously the smell will be the same if you get a smaller bottle, but the shape of the bottle etc. will be different.
~Introduction~ Last November I was stuck in Vienna Airport for hours due to some light snow. (Snow? Vienna? November? No surely not. Let's not prepare for that scenario by buying defrosting fluid. Preparing is for losers. Apparently.) I was wandering around the airport all by myself. Stopped for a sad, lonely cup of coffee, and then decided to hit the shops one more time. And there it was! It was big, gorgeous and pink! I approached it to take a closer look, and when I read the name on the perfume bottle, Gucci Eau de Perfume II, I nearly cried with joy. I had heard rumours that it existed but never actually seen it myself. It didn't matter that I'd already bought three other bottles of perfume and quite a lot of chocolate (Mozart Kugeln are delicious!) and didn't really have any more money to spend. I had to have it! Good thing I bought it too, because when I spent four hours sitting in a plane, with nothing to eat, drink or do, before we even took off I found it very comforting to sniff my wrist every now and then. I strongly believe that is what kept me sane.
~The Bottle~ The bottle is in the shape of a cubiod whereas the lid is cylindrical. They are both made of heavy glass, and when you lift it up I recommend that you grab the bottle instead of the lid because it doesn't take a lot for the lid to come off. The bottle itself is clear, and the perfume is a gorgeous shade of pink. It also comes in a huge pink cardboard box (it has to be huge since the bottle is oversized). In fact the box was so pretty I wanted to keep it, but during a rational moment I decided that I didn't have any use for it so I threw it out. But I was sad to see it go. The overall impression of the bottle/packaging is that it is very luxurious. This is a gift you would not be ashamed to present to the Queen or any other posh person.
~The Scent~ Gucci II has a wonderful, girlie smell. On websites it's described as both playful and elegant and I agree. It is quite fruity and florally, but in a good way. There's not even a tiny hint of bubblegum or old lady perfume. Again according to websites, you are supposed to be able to pick out blackberries, blackcurrant and mandarin as well as violet, jasmine, heliotrope and cedar wood. With that in mind I've carefully sniffed away for a few minutes and I think I can make out the blackcurrant and the violet. Then again it might just be because I've been told that is what I'm supposed to experience. As with all perfumes, Gucci II will smell different on different people, and I've also found that it smells different on me from day to day. It's always nice and fruity though.
~When do you wear it?~ Gucci II is marketed as a scent for daytime wear and since it is quite light it is ideal to wear to work on when going shopping. However, since I don't like those heavy, musky perfumes most people would buy for evening wear I actually use this when I go out as well, and I normally get quite a few compliments for it, both from men and women.
~Who can wear it?~ This is truly a scent that any woman can wear regardless of her age. I would describe it as a flirty scent, so if you have a flirty personality this is for you! It is also a perfume that is not too overpowering so it's safe to wear it even if you work close to other people (assuming that they are not allergic to perfume smell). I spend the better part of the day leaning over people or sitting right next to them so I think it's important to have a perfume that has a really nice but not overbearing smell, and no-one has ever complained or made any negative comments about this one, quite the opposite.
A little word of warning... Before you run out to buy this I strongly recommend that you try it on first, because, as I've already said, it will smell different on different people. One of my friends tried Gucci II and for some reason it smelled like pure alcohol on her, which is not a very good thing if you plan to wear it to work.
~Staying power~ Since the bottle is very big and heavy, this is not a perfume you take with you in your hand bag in order to refresh the scent during the day. You can of course get one of the smaller bottles for that purpose, but I haven't been able to find them in my town. Lucky for me I've found that I do not need to refresh it during the day - if I put it on in the morning before going to work it will last me until I get home in the evening, even if I do stop for a pint or three on the way home. If I'm going out for a night on the town I will go home to take a shower and change my clothes anyway, so it's never really been an issue for me.
~Price~ The Eau de Perfume spray comes in three different sizes, and they have the following retail prices…
2.5 oz $85 (app. £46) 1.7 oz $65 (app. £35) 1.0 oz $48 (app. £26)
Unfortunately I couldn't find a UK-based site with the prices on it, but I hope this is information enough. Also, you can get it cheaper on E-bay and similar sites (£26.50 for a 2.5 oz bottle). I bought the 75 ml bottle (2.5 oz) in November and there's still some left in the bottle, though I don't wear this perfume exclusively.
~Final words~ I'm not going to say that Gucci II makes me feel sexy, but at least I feel a little bit special when I wear it. Maybe it looks a bit odd when I keep sniffing my wrists, but it smells so wonderful I cannot help myself!

Packaging
The bottle comes inside a baby pink box which has the Gucci logo embossed on the front. The box is quite plain and simple but very girly because of the colour.
The bottle is square shaped while the lid is round making the bottle look quite elgant and certainld ... ...would avoid this!
Range
Gucci actually have a fairly wide range or perfumes. To name a few: Gucci Rush, Gucci Rush 2, Gucci Envy, Gucci Envy Me 2, Gucci and Gucci Woman.
Summary

The Gucci II perfume bottle comes in a baby pink box which is really girlie and feminine. The Gucci logo is embossed across the front of the box. Although the box is quite simple, with no major decorations or pictures on it, it still feels feminine and almost elegant. The bottle itself comes in the shape of a square and the lid to the bottle is circular which makes quite a stunning ... ...and the bottle is pretty heavy (well for a perfume bottle it is!). The bottle is see through which I like because you can always see the amount that you have left. The perfume inside the bottle is a light pink colour.
Cost

...make sure they don't get Gucci (without the II) which looks very similar, except the perfume is brown not pink, but smells quite different! I can't think of any disadvantages to having your loved one buy you lovely perfume, as long as they buy one you like. I find it helps to 'guide' them when you're out shopping or flicking through a magazine, but only coming up to my birthday or Christmas of course! I only wish this could be a scratch and sniff ...

I bought this perfume when I was on holiday last year in Gran Canaria and it has now become my favourite perfume! It has a fresh smell without being too flowery or girly, with a hint of musk to make it more a more mature scent.
The pale pink packaging makes it an appropriate gift for women of all ages, it is not aimed at a particular group and does that make a big statement. It is understated but pretty, just like the shape of the bottle.
It isn't ... ...is definitely worth the cost. I spray it on in the morning before I go to work and I can still smell it when I get home again in the evening.
As soon as my last bottle ran out, I went straight out and bought another!
I would definitely recommend this perfume to women and to men wanting to get their partner a perfume she'll love!! ...
