I got given Gucci Rush a good few years ago for a birthday present. At first I was a bit disappointed - it didn't look very Gucci to me. The plastic, bright red casing, which was shaped a bit like a camera looked like something you would get from the discount perfume store. Not something you would really expect from such an established, distinguished and most of all, expensive brand!

The Packaging

Since we have already touched on the packaging, this seems like the best place to start. If you purchase Gucci Rush on its own (not in a gift pack, I mean) you will be given a disposable camera shaped red package. The outside cover of the perfume is a deeper, shiner red sheen with the 'Gucci Rush' logo down one side. Slide this off, and you will be presented with the perfume itself - a red box with the same logo down one side.

I suppose the good thing about the casing is that it's not easy to drop and break, saying that it is more vulnerable to general wear and tear than the glass bottles, for example scratches and chips.

At first I wasn't impressed at all by the packaging but I must confess that I have grown to love it. It stands out from other perfumes available on the market - I haven't seen any packaged in a similar way. Whilst it doesn't have a luxurious feel to the casing (why not use the same shape but in a red glass bottle?) this is obviously saved for the scent itself…

The Scent

"Gucci launched Gucci Rush in 1999 as a contemporary spicy fragrance for women and this one's all about sex. We kid you not. Spicy and exotic, even the bottle looks raunchy for heaven's sake. Forget ladylike, this one's for flashy exhibitionists looking for a crazy time. Squirt at your peril!" - this quote from escentual.co.uk (where you can also purchase the product) sums up this fragrance perfectly.
The scent is very unique and distinctive, and will make you stand out in the crowd. It smells fresh and sensual whilst being deep at the same time. Gucci Rush contains exotic floral scents and spices including vanilla and sandalwood.

The Range

Shoes, coats, gloves, handbags, purses, scarves, watches… Oh right, we are talking about the perfume… Luckily, perfume is just about the cheapest thing Gucci produces - £55 for a key ring anyone?

Also available: Gucci Rush body lotion, a perfumed body lotion which gives you a lasting (although not as lasting as the perfume itself) fragrance - I shall review this later on.

Gucci Rush 2 - a lighter, zingier version of the first version.

Gucci Rush for men, which I wouldn't bother even thinking about as it lets the range down (in my opinion!)

Gucci Rush Summer - also a lighter, summery (surprisingly enough!) version of the original, with an improved monogrammed casing.

The Price

The RRP for a 50ml bottle of Gucci Rush is £38.00, but as always, shop around and you'll be able to grab a good bargain. The cheapest stockist I could find is PerfumePoint.co.uk, where you can pick up 30ml for £15.05, 50ml for £20.70 and 75ml for £27.49.

If you prefer high street shopping, Boots are selling a Gucci Rush gift set containing 30ml of Gucci Rush Eau De Toilette and 50ml of Gucci Rush Body lotion, packaged in a branded red Gucci box for £27.00 - a lovely Christmas present! The Gucci Rush 2 gift set is also available there for the same price. If you purchase online from boots before the 5th December you will also gain triple points on your advantage card if you have one, so you get 12p back for every pound you spend!

The Verdict

Since first trying Gucci Rush, I haven't been without it. Each whiff of the scent reminds me of my Birthday years ago when I first got given this as a gift, and it's lovely for bringing back memories!

The scent is extremely long lasting - just one spritz on your neck (or hair for even longer lasting scent) will last you all day, and into the next until you shower it off! This has to be given top marks for lasting effect; it is one of the best perfumes I have experienced in these terms.

As much as I love this perfume however, it is easy to become sick of it. The smell is sweet and intense and if worn too often I tend to get bored of it. I therefore tend not to use it too often and save it for special occasions.

This fragrance is versatile in that it can be worn morning, noon or night. I tend to stick to using it for evening wear but it wouldn't look out of place being worn to work - although perhaps a subtler hint of the fragrance like the body lotion might be more suitable.

The price is quite good considering it is made by Gucci, it is about the same price you would expect to pay for a perfume. Make sure you shop around first as whilst it is a good perfume, it is definitely not worth near to the forty pounds mark that a lot of places stock 50ml of it for.

As for the effect of the perfume, I have had so many comments whilst wearing this perfume! A few people have stopped to ask me what I am wearing, or say how nice it is, others have asked me if I am wearing Gucci Rush, so it must be gaining in popularity as well. If you are after a sweet, deep, girly and romantic fragrance, I'm sure that you would love this scent - give it a go!
