The main thing I enjoy about Guilfest is the great atmosphere, and is is suitable for the whole family. Aside from the music there is a kids play area, with lots to keep anyone under the age of 8 entertained, and a comedy tent. There is a good variety of music styles, with the Ambient Lounge playing chillout music, the Tropical tent dance music, with a number of famous DJ's. The Uncut stage is played by lots of upcoming local bands, and is where I spent wuite a lot of my time in 2004. Most of the actsin this stage are rock acts, but there were a number of others as well, and if you are by rthe barrier you are only a couple of metres away form the bands. The 2nd stage often has some great bands as an alternitive to the ones on the main stage, such as Ozomatli, who were easily the best band I have ever seen live continuing to play in the crowd at the end of their set, and they received no hassle, showing the relaxed atmosphere that they could do this safely. The main stage always has some good headliners, moreso in 2003, where Madness were great, and had everyone young and old dancing. The main stage is set up well, and is at the bottom of a slope, so there is a good view even if you are further away, though children may want to be closer to the stage in order to see. The main stage has good sound quality, as does the 2nd stage, but the Uncut stage has some flaws, as the bands set up the equipment themselves, withouit any road techniciens. There is a wide variety of bands, from rock to jazz, pop to reggae, and african music to the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain, who had the crowd chanting their name with no prompt at the end of their set, which should have been longer. Thieir is a good choice of food, with Mexican stands, Paella, pizzas, chinese, indian, thai and sandwhichs all readily available. I would definately reccomend Guilfest to any festival goer, whether it is your 1st or your 1000th festival. Don't miss next years Guilfest on the 15,16,17 July 2005! (but make sure I can get a ticket!)
