Bend them like Ernie - They've got balls
Review of Ernie Ball Super Slinky Electric Guitar Strings by JeffFromPoole

Advantages: lightweight, bend easily sound good
Disadvantages: not as loud as heavy strings

...chance of de-tuning it. Ernie Ball Super slinky strings sound good for lightweight strings, having a fuller and richer tone than many of the cheaper lightweight strings I have used. They also don't break as often, indeed, I have only ever had 1 top E string break, but that was during a live show and meant that I had to re-string in the middle of a show. One of the reasons I like these strings is that they are very to get good finger vibrato from. ...
...if I could still buy Ernie Ball strings, and if they were still as good as they were. The good news is that you can! Not only that but they are still the same quality and even have the same packaging, I recognised them as soon as I entered the shop. They have gone up a bit in price in the last thirty years but not drastically so. I think they were £2.50 a set in 1975, the last ones I bought, curiously enough from a newsagent in Swanage, were £4. ... Read review

Keep your G String shiny
Review of GHS Fast Fret by JeffFromPoole

Advantages: prolongs the life and tone of your strings
Disadvantages: slight oily feel at first

So What is Fast Fret? It is a product intended to prolong the life of metal instrument strings. So What's the problem? When you play a musical instrument that involves touching the strings the oils and contaminants in your fingers transfers to the strings, causing them to corrode. What are the effects? The string will start to sound and look dull. The shiny finish of your Ernie Ball Super Slinky guitar strings will turn black, the sound will lose ...
...this point it is usual to change the strings, which is not terribly difficult but leaves you with a period of time to get through before the strings bed in and start to play properly. If you shop around you can buy new strings quite cheaply, my least deal on eBay secured my four sets of strings for £10. Nevertheless I saw this product and decided to give it a try. What is it? You get a storage tube that contains the string cleaner, a block of oil ... Read review

Plenty of twang for your buck.
Review of D'Addario Guitar Strings by andrewpledger91

Advantages: Same price as Ernie Balls but much longer lasting
Disadvantages: Take a while to settle

I bought the D'addario superlight set (9-42) about a month ago and they still seem to be holding up very well. The superlights are very easy to play on and have a very 'elastic' action. I was very impressed with the corrosion-proof packaging of the strings because they came out of the packet looking very shiny as oposed to the previous set I used (Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky). The strings in question looked like they were already beggining to corrode ...
...ball-ends made it very easy for me to change them even though it was my first time doing it for myself. The only gripe I have about them is the length of time they take to settle, even after proper stretching. On my second set it took almost a 3 days before they were holding tune properly. Once they reach this stage they seem to hold tuning vey well despite my flagrant abuse of my cheap liscened floyd rose. I would recomend these strings to anyone ... Read review

Quite simply, the market standard.
Review of Dunlop Tortex Standard Pick by andrewpledger91

Advantages: Relatively cheap, sturdy and hard wearing
Disadvantages: I keep loosing them!

...big problem on previous brands I used). I was very impressed with how well the pick stayed in shape despite my hardest strumming and there was very little wear on the edge even after extensive use. In the appropriate guage, I would recomend Dunlop to begginers and playing proffesionals alike. ... Read review

Ga-30 = Easy and great
Review of Korg GA-30 Guitar/Bass tuner by 101Tomsk101

Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, quick and efficient
Disadvantages: None

The Korg GA-30 is a must for anyone who tunes guitars. I have recently started to learn to play guitar, initially finding the tuning process frustraiting and long. (I play piano and have that tuned every 6 months, tuning a guitar every time i play = long) I just want to get down to playing! The korg is fantastic, you can tune using the inbuilt mic, great if its quiet, but better still to plug in the direct jact port. Then just watch the scale and/or ...
...to get the note perfect. It also has a function to drop the note your tuning by a semi-tone to 5 semi-tones (ie two and half tones (notes) so tuning a drop D is easy as pie and you don't have reconfigure the device, just a touch of a button and you can drop tune any note! You can also tune bass guitars just as easily. Overall great value for money and so easiy to use i don't know why anyone would tune manually or with anything else. ... Read review
