I've been a fan of Guitar Hero for a while now, so when I heard they were releasing a new one I couldn't wait for it to come out. I did however have a few doubts after buying Guitar Hero Hits, because I didn't find this game the best, but last week I went ahead and bought 5. I am glad I did as it really is a great game for all ages.
The biggest difference with this one is that you can now play as your xbox avatar. I think this is a great idea, because when you play it with your friends and on live it shows more personality instead of being the same character as other people. Although it does still let you pick characters from previous guitar heroes and customize the clothes.
Another advantage is it lets you import your world tour downloadable content straight into the game. As well as creating and mixing your own songs to play, in the studio and GHMIX.
The big thing I like about this game is it has 85 songs by 83 different artists. This really does keep you busy for hours, and the song choices are great. Although I did find a few of the songs hard to play on medium lol.
Guitar Hero 5 is aimed at playing with 4 player band; guitar, bass, vocals, drums. It allows players to drop in and out of each game. All players can play whatever instrument they want, for instance you can all be bass etc. There is also a rockfest competitive mode to compete and show off your skills.
If you complete some songs you get to unlock various musicians, such as Shirley Manson, Carlsos Santana and Kurt Cobain.
Another difference is that star power is worked separately for each player instead of having to activate it together. However their is Band Moments where everyone has to play it successfully to gain the rewards.
There is 13 venues to the career mode, with 5 songs and 1 sponser gig in each one. In the sponser gig you get to pick any song you want. To get to the next venue you need to unlock a certain amount of stars to move on. You can earn up to 9 stars in some songs, and if you hit every note that earns you 6 stars.
You get to play it in quickplay mode which allows you to create a playlist of the songs that you want to play. There is also two new modes which consist of party play and rock fest mode.
The Rockfest mode consists off: Momentum, Streakers, Perfectionist, Do or Die, Elimination and Pro Face Off.
Another new feature is the challenges part. These are in the venues when you play gigs. You can either get Gold, Platinum or Diamond. These challenges consist of using vocals or whammy a song for a certain amount of time or using bass to tap as many notes as you can. You get a record meter to show you how your process is going at the start of the song, and how much further you have to go to complete it.
I would recommend anyone to buy this game as it really will keep you entertained for hours.
