My Love affair with a D28
Review of Martin D-28 Acoustic Guitar by johnboycoastie

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: None that I know

The C.F. Martin Company is an american guitar manufacturer established in 1833, and have consistantly produced some of the worlds finest acoustic gutars. Used by stars like Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash and many many others. The D28 design was first introduced around 1934, and is almost unchanged since. The letter D indicates that it is a dreadnought size body, and the number 28 is the design number. A standard 14 fret design, built from Rosewood, Mahogany, ...
...and played a D28 for some years now, and am delighted with every aspect of the instrument. The build quality, looks and feel of the instrument leave you in no doubt that this is a quality instrument. It very capably handles hard driving rhythm playing, with a strong but balanced sound, and will respond equally well to gentle fingerpicking styles. A beautifully balanced instrument, that if cared for will last a lifetime, and improve with age, as ... Read review

414 big and bold sound
Review of Taylor 414ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic Electric Guitar by gerryd1159

Advantages: Ringing sound, playablity,
Disadvantages: Putting it down

I have a 24 track digital recording studio where I compose material. In the past I have tried recording with a number of main brands e.g. fender, takamine, ovations, martins etc the sound would be good but it never smacked me in the side of the head and said wow this is it (guitar players will know what I mean) This January I set of to a local accoustic guitar shop Sheehans Leicester (check em out) I explained my problems to Noel and he directed ...
...spend about a £1000) Sheehans set up all of the guitars that they have on display and they play like a dream but after an hour or so playing I still had the same opinion. Noel recommended that I tried out the Taylors so we go through the series eventually I came to the 414 and wow is exactly what I thought, the sound, the feel of the neck and fingerboard this guitar was so well built it appeared to compensate for my poor playing, it was about £1700 ... The Original, The best
Review of Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar by Richguitarplayer

Advantages: Looks Good, Plays Good, Feels Good
Disadvantages: A bit pricey for something 'standard'

Bought this guitar a few years ago and it is still my main guitar. It is very well built and can take some hard knocks, the plastic has discoloured but the paint still looks perfect. My guitar has the maple neck and shows no sign of wearing, the frets have a little but that should be expected after playing it religiously for four years. The volume pot is a little crackly and might be replaced at some point in the next few months, and the crackling ...
...through a 100 watt stack the standard pickups sound very good, from a Hank Marvin twang to a hard rock distortion sound can all be achieved, although I have changed the pickups in mine to get a more metal sound. The guitar feels very balanced when playing, i.e. not top heavy like an SG. It is also very good for shredding (yngwie malmsteen for example) and playing some good rhythm, although 21 frets are a bit unheard of nowadays, an extra fret would ... Read review

good guitar
Review of Yamaha Pacifica PAC1511MS Mike Stern Single Cutaway Electric Guitar by c_i_a_o

Advantages: was cheap
Disadvantages: could sound better

I've owned my Yamaha Pacifica for quite a few years now...and I'm still crap at playing it. Not that it's anything to do with the guitar, though. It's beyond reproach. Ah yes...a nice sunny day in 1999. I walk into Gamlins music store in Cardiff and a half hour later walk out with a Yamaha Pacifica and a Peavey amp for under two hundred groats. A very low price indeed. Not that the cheap price is an indication of poor quality. Not at all. I recently ...
...for. In my opinion my Yamaha was even better than the Strat, the only thing letting it down being the absence of a tremelo. But it had much better sustain and a greater versatility than the Fender. The Pacifica is set up with two single coil pick ups (which'll give it a Fender-style sound) and a twincoil pickup near the bridge which does a good job of mimicking the sound of a traditional Gibson 'humbucker'. For those who don't know much about guitars, ... Read review
