Just Go And Feel It

Advantages: Light, tough, great balance
Disadvantages: Expensive

Owning Gibson is an honour and if it is Gibson J-45 rosewood acoustic it is both honour and delight. It is very is to be biased for the Taylors, Honners, Martins but with this one it is total passionate bias. Just strum it and immediately feel its out-of-the-world balance- bass, midrange, treble-as if electronically equalized. In fact the touch is great. Smooth neck, comfortablely angled. Frankly speaking it has got a tone of its own, just something ...
...doubt its toughness, go live, keep strumming J-45 takes it all with mute stoicism. As all Gibsons, J-45 do not generally have pickups. Mahogony neck, fairly midium sized, beautifully sloped shoulder body, whitebound fingerboard and headstock and ofcourse Gibson special ebony. Tell me why shouldn't Bob Dylan love it?? ...

Fender American Standard Stratocaster : The Tone

Advantages: Tough, durable, wide variety of tones, ergonomic body, fast neck
Disadvantages: Hum and noise due to stock single-coil pickups

Bought a maple-neck (with black plastic dot markers) sunburst Am Std Strat from Bentley Music in Kuala Lumpur in 1992 for RM 1 670. came with a rectangular hardshell case (not form-fit) with screw-type SKB hinges and lock (padlock not provided). Had to go through 7 guitars until I found 1 that had a flaw I could correct (faulty volume pot). This goes to say that all the guitars I tested had unpardonable flaws such as poor string-polepiece alignment ...
...lose tone and sustain) or scratchy/poorly tapered volume and/or tone controls (makes the guitar unsuitable for live gigs until these are replaced). This should not be the case with a fine company such as Fender. Quality control must be tightened, in my humble opinion. As mentioned before, out of neccessity; I chose one with everything 'in order' except for a faulty neck volume pot (the one closest to the bridge). A quick switch to a new Ibanez 250K ...

1 of the elite trio of acoustic brands!!!

Advantages: will last a life time, sounds great, plays great, will not depreciate
Disadvantages: costly to begin with

...simply, If you purchase a Martin you will never have to buy another acoustic again, they are the perfect tool for all professional players. In my experience I have never seen one loose any value or sound bad. My advice would be to certainly shop around to find the best deals and Do not just settle on the first that you pick up unless you are instantly happy with its feel and sound. No two acoustics are identical in sound or feel so do not stop until ...
...very fortunate to purchase my Martin for £800 second hand price, the guitar had a few marks on it but the fact is I buy my guitars to play and gig not to lock in a cabinet all it's life so this did not bother me, I actually kind of think it added to it's character. Whether you spend £1500 or £5000 on your martin you will have a guitar for life as Martins are built for the professional player looking for the ultimate tool. Ultimately there are other ...

Second hand /88 sg Re-issue

Advantages: Its a Gibson. Small, light body. Great sound
Disadvantages: Fragile neck

Having just bought a Gibson SG '61 Re-issue I thought I would let everyone know how good it is. It was made in 1988 and is in good condition for its age. I had never played an SG before getting this one so I was taking a bit of a chance but I am glad I did. It is like a cross between a Les Paul and a strat and might well be the most versatile guitar that I have ever played ( I have played quite a few ) The build quality is great and I think the ...
...the original so much that Gibson re-released it. Soundwise it is similar to a Les Paul but with a slightly thinner sound. sometimes a Les Paul can be overpowering but the SG doesn't have that problem. The pickups are PAF copies so they aren't too powerful, great for classic rock or blues but not so good for heavier styles such as heavy metal. The guitar holds it's tuning pretty well. ...

Classic!

Advantages: Lovely to play and being a Les Paul you can be assured of its quality
Disadvantages: Bit on the pricey side but well worth it in my opinion

Although ive never owned this guitar one of my friends has and it is one of the nicest pieces of equipment you could ever wish to play. Couple this with a Marshall amp and cab and there is no better way to play guitar and no rival for the sound that can be produced by even the most incompetent of guitarists like myself! The humbucker pickups are of the best quality and with the three way selection switch which all Les Pauls now come with as standard, ...
