Gretsch 6120DE, Everything Duane Hoped It Would Be Advantages: Not $6,000 Disadvantages: Not 1957 This was the guitar which I coveted for many years. My holy grail if you will. I picked this guitar up on eBay for $1500 and if another came up for the same price I'd buy it again. I've used it in a Jazz band with flat wound strings and I've used it in a rock band and in both groups it's a comfortable, tone-mongering work horse. I love it. The feel, the sound, the look, it's an amazing deal for $1500. I see some around now for $2100 although I haven't ... ...be able to afford the $6000 "real-deal" and as far as I'm concerned, I've got the real deal. I'll try to get a little more specific here, yes it has a Bigsby but no, I've not had any trouble keeping it in tune. I thank the roller bridge for that. The tuning machines are the smoothest tuners I've ever used. The pickups are hotter than on any of my other guitars. The neck has a great feel to it. Gretsch G1910 Synchromatic Guitar - Made in Korea Advantages: Tone and Rhythym Monster Disadvantages: Solder joints Beautifully made guitar with classic Gretsch tone. Absolutely one of the best sounding Korean made guitars I've played. Two Gretsch humbucker pickups each wired to an individual and a master volume control. There is also a three way phase/tone switch which really allows for a wide variety of tones. The carved maple top has a slight flame look to it and is exquisite. When used with a good tube amp, this thing is a rhythm monster. The one caveat I ... ...after about 6 years. I have had to have the input jack and the bridge pickup resoldered. It was an easy job and the guitar now sounds and performs like new. Four stars only because of this issue. This has five star tone and is a great sounding, exceptionally well made guitar. It's a Gretsch Jim but not as we know it! Advantages: Very sexy and plays as well as it looks! Disadvantages: Price - but you get what you pay for! I imported this guitar from the States on a favourable exchange rate day in tending to sell it on. I kept to my plan and kept it unhandled/unplayed while I advertised it on Ebay at £400 lower than the lowest UK retail price. It didn\'t sell! Why? I unpacked the guitar and removed the protective film, plugged it into my amp without altering the setup and tuned it. The guitar is no longer for sale!!! The build quality is fabulous - glossy black ... ...the sound.....it is unique. It\'s has more \"uumph\" than usual Gretsch\'s, the pickups have been upgraded so that sound moves away from the country/rockabilly sound and becomes some sort of Les Paul/Gretsch hybrid. The Greatest Budget Electro Acoustic Around!!! Advantages: With the treble turned all the way down it becomes a bass guitar. I kid you not. Brilliant guitar, ultra fast and comfortable. Advantages: Well made, plays great, smooth quick neck, comfortable guitar and low B Disadvantages: Bad stock pickups, thin finish chips easily. ...in comparison. It's an Ibanez Prestige guitar so it’s top of the range, flawless construction, very comfortable and very easy to play with a thin smooth neck. It features the Edge Pro 7 which is Ibanez's own tremolo design and its fantastic, easy to palm mute on, easy to change strings, and keeps the tuning very stable. Now on to the bad, Ibanez has (presumably for cost) taken steps to make their finishes as thin as possible and that results ... ...you have to be very careful with it to keep it in good condition (something which I don’t mind, I babied it to near mint condition as with my other guitars). The pickups are awful, very muddy which means that you lose definition of notes, they blur in to each other under distortion when playing the low B, fortunately there is a wealth of decent 7 string pickups out there to remedy this problem. Also upping the gauge of the low B can help with muddyness, ...
