Taylor 810 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
Advantages: Superior tone, easy to play Disadvantages: Expensive
...the proud possessor of a Taylor 810 guitar! The one I'm writing about belongs to a friend of mine, and he's very protective of it, will let very few people touch it (I appear to be one of the favoured few!)
The guitar itself is made of Indian rosewood back and sides, with a Sitka spruce top, with distinctive Taylor ebony bridge and scratchplate. The neck is tropical American mahogany, the fingerboard is also ebony. The soundhole is decorated with ... ...comes in an extremely heavy Taylor hard case - made of 5-ply wood, which will withstand even a motorbike falling on it. (Tried and tested, lol).
This guitar is not for a beginner, and would be wasted on someone who just wants to strum chords. It's a melodic guitar, and should be used for playing melody! More cutting than the mahogany models, the rosewood still has a lot of sweetness in its tone. Being one of Bob Taylor's favourites, it is described ...

414 big and bold sound
Advantages: Ringing sound, playablity, Disadvantages: Putting it down
I have a 24 track digital recording studio where I compose material. In the past I have tried recording with a number of main brands e.g. fender, takamine, ovations, martins etc the sound would be good but it never smacked me in the side of the head and said wow this is it (guitar players will know what I mean)
This January I set of to a local accoustic guitar shop Sheehans Leicester (check em out) I explained my problems to Noel and he directed ... ...spend about a £1000) Sheehans set up all of the guitars that they have on display and they play like a dream but after an hour or so playing I still had the same opinion.
Noel recommended that I tried out the Taylors so we go through the series eventually I came to the 414 and wow is exactly what I thought, the sound, the feel of the neck and fingerboard this guitar was so well built it appeared to compensate for my poor playing, it was about £1700 ...

Brilliant guitar, ultra fast and comfortable.
Advantages: Well made, plays great, smooth quick neck, comfortable guitar and low B Disadvantages: Bad stock pickups, thin finish chips easily.
...in comparison.
It's an Ibanez Prestige guitar so it’s top of the range, flawless construction, very comfortable and very easy to play with a thin smooth neck.
It features the Edge Pro 7 which is Ibanez's own tremolo design and its fantastic, easy to palm mute on, easy to change strings, and keeps the tuning very stable.
Now on to the bad,
Ibanez has (presumably for cost) taken steps to make their finishes as thin as possible and that results ... ...you have to be very careful with it to keep it in good condition (something which I don’t mind, I babied it to near mint condition as with my other guitars).
The pickups are awful, very muddy which means that you lose definition of notes, they blur in to each other under distortion when playing the low B, fortunately there is a wealth of decent 7 string pickups out there to remedy this problem. Also upping the gauge of the low B can help with muddyness, ...

Gibson SG standard...
Advantages: Stunning looks. Amazing sound (Clean + Distorted). Amazingly Light. Disadvantages: Newer Models can be weak at the neck.
...guitar was in its official gibson hard-case and I was holding it upright with the bottom of the case of the floor and I had my hands on the top of the case. Now... Im not quite sure who these people were but they must have been about 16 years old there or there about, but they were running up and down this corridor like lunatics, anyway so they had all this space to be running around, and one of them decides to to try and run in the small gap between ... ...a couple of years before, Gibson went through money troubles and stopped making the SG and Les Paul Standards with the 3pc necks, which if that is true, is completely ridiculous as they made the weakest part of the guitar weaker. But other than that one problem this guitar is the best investment I have made, even after the major breakage the guitar stays in tune perfectly and there are no problems with the intonation. The guitar in my opinion is ...
