I am not a fan of Arsenal but this guy was a truly fantastic player when he played for them. This meant that even fans of other clubs like myself could also admire and appreciate his talent as a footballer. After a relatively subdued beginning to his footballing career, under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, Thiery Henry became a club legend and a superstar in the football world. He has since moved on to Barcelona where he has continued to be successful.

Thierry Daniel Henry was born on the 17th of August 1977 in Paris in a tough neighbourhood to his parents- a father from Guadeloupe and a mother originally from from Martinique-both considered as overseas regions of France located in the Caribbean sea.

Henry's frst major club was As Monaco in France where he would link up with Arsene Wenger for the first time who was first team coach at the time. During his time at Monaco he was voted French Young footballer of the year in 1996 and went on to help the team to the Ligue 1 title in the 1996-7 season. He moved to Italian club Juventus in 1999 but was relatively unsuccesful at the club and was played out on the wing mainly which proved to be quite ineffective. Despite this Arsene Wenger, who was now manager at Arsenal was keen to sign the Frenchman and paid around £10 million for his services. He was brought in as a replacement for the recently departed Nicolas Anelka who had left for Real Madrid at the time.

Henry who had played as a winger in Italy was converted to a striker by Wenger which proved to be a stroke of genius. Early on he struggled but once he became accustomed to his new role he proved to be deadly and was able to help in leading Arsenal to two premier league titles and three FA cups.

On 18th October 2005, Henry stamped his name as the greatest striker to have worn the colours of Arsenal when he surpassed Ian Wright and became the club's all time leading scorer. Ian Wright was during his own time an Arsenal legend. In the year 1997, he had overtaken Cliff Bastin's record of 178 goals for the Gunners but Henry managed a total of 226 goals by the end of his Arsenal career.

Since moving to Barcelona he struggled slightly in his first season in adjusting to new settings but last season he was successful in helping to lead the team to a treble of the Spanish league, Spanish cup and Champions league trophies.

At international level he has well over 100 caps and around 50 goals and was part of the squad that won the Fifa 1998 world cup and the European Championships in 2000.

Thierry Henry is a fantastic player and posseses great football skills and dribbling ability as well as an ability to score great goals. He originally started as a winger probably due to his pace and dribbling ability but was converted by Wenger to a striker. His ability to finish and score goals proved to be a very valuable asset to Wenger and Arsenal. He is also able to provide assists to his team mates and is able to set up and create goals for other members of his team. This can be considered sometimes just as important as scoring goals. Henry is also a likeable character and can also be considered quite humble and not so arrogant like some footballers around today (e.g Cristiano Ronaldo). Overall a fantastic footballer and also a cool person off the field.

You cannot deny this man's talent on the pitch. My late husband used to rave about him.
