12 months ago I bought a lap topcomputer from a major retailer financed by HFC. My payments had gone out of my bank account each month until this month, the evening before the payment was due I realised I was £1 short for the direct debit and not wanting to be charged a £30 fee by my bank I cancellled the direct debit. I called into the local branch of HFC the monday following and explained the reason for my cancelled direct debit and saying I wanted to pay the missed payment and set up a new mandate. The young woman I spoke to asked if I was interested in reducing the intrest rate on this load as I was on the high rate offered by the retail finance. An appointment was made for the next morning. When I arrived I was made very welcome given a coffee ect. After discussing my needs they offered me a loan to clear not only my lap top but my outstanding car finance which due to my husbands past credit problems was on a very high interest rate. The result was I walked out 90 minutes later with a cheque to settle my car finance, my lap top on a lower rate and cash (my fridge freezer having broken down the night before) for £2 a month less than I was paying before over the same period of time. I was also offered a credit card. I wasn't pressured into anything I didn't need or want. Regarding the credit card I was a bit hesitant, and was simply told "if you change your mind just pop back in" I actually changed my mind while I was there as I got a text message from my husband who works away from home saying he had run out of petrol and the garage closest to where he was didn't accept a solo card so he was having to walk 3 miles to the nearest cash point! I decided at that time a credit card would be a good thing to have for emergencies.
Over all an excellent experience with this bank.

Interesting op, though I'd take some care with that company. Their interest rates are very high though you can save money if you can pay off over a shorter time period. Luci
