Being new to this motherhood lark, well newish (6 months), I’m still figuring things out and rely on lots of advice from others, especially my Health Visitor, she’s brilliant and been such a great help.
But being a diabetic myself and have been since childhood, I do believe in teaching kids how to eat good healthy wholesome food as there are far too many temptations out there now waiting to rot their teeth not to mention their insides. A friend introduced me to Hipp Organic Food who could not recommend it highly enough and after doing some investigating I decided to try it out with Christopher.
Apparently Hipp products do rather well in this country (UK) and has seen significant growth over the years, well none of their products have GM ingredients, no preservatives, no colorants and the idea of foods grown in good old healthy soil that’s
not been treated with chemical sprays or fertilisers certainly appeals to me, I don’t know about you?
It’s also Hipp’s policy to recycle 97% of all it’s waste products (although they do use glass jars), so their goodies are not only a good source of food and nutrients for our children, they are kind to the environment also and in today’s climate that can only be a good thing, right?
Well Dr. Claus Hipp, Chief Executive Officer of Hipp, seemed to think so and introduced his organic range of food for babies to the UK back in 1995 following his own concerns about food health scares along with the desire to offer a varied and wholesome diet, his grandfather, Joseph Hipp, first started the company in Germany toward the end of the 19th Century after his wife was unable to breast feed, he developed a milk enriched rusk flour which he sold to many of his friends and neighbours bringing him much success, but it was his son George who developed the food branding side of the business, Claus’ father.
Today the company leaves their competitors trailing behind having won the Mother and Baby Gold Award for Baby Food 7 years running from 1995 until 2002.
Because they use only organic vegetables in their products, they have done a great deal to promote organic farming within Germany whilst bringing our children a fabulous range of products including baby milk; food for babies and toddlers; breakfast cereals; drinks and of course savouries.
Some of the products on offer available for 4 months and upwards (it’s not advisable to feed a child solids under that age due to the concerns of obesity as the child grows) are pasta, risotto, salmon with tagliatelle, vegetables with rice and chicken, vegetables with rice and beef, they even offer desserts and cater very well if your child has allergies such as gluten, dairy etc.
Hipp juices are available for babies from 1 week old going all the way up to suitable drinks for older children.
These colourful jars come with teasing images of the food within for example potatoes, sweetcorn etc, decorated with the well known Hipp Logo, each jar listing all the ingredients and the nutrional value which I believe on Ciao I am not allowed to reveal, but if in doubt check out on supermarket shelf before buying.
Hipp also guarantee that only organic foods are used in making their foods and that each and every batch of their ingredients are tested before use, I would hope so after making such a fuss about it lol!
Before purchasing please ensure that the top of the lid does not pop when you touch it, if it does, do not buy, only buy products that have been secured using the proper vacuum seal, otherwise it may have been interfered with and that’s not a good sign especially with baby food.
For Example: I purchased Hipp Organic Vegetables, Rice and Chicken 125g Jar, suitable for 4 months upwards for 49p from Asda.
Description read mixed vegetables and rice simmered with chicken containing no added salt, gluten free, milk products free and egg free. You can serve at room temperature or warming it by placing lidless jar in a bowl of hot water or emptying the required amount into a microwavable bowl and microwave for around 10 seconds just to warm slightly being careful not to overheat, if you are by any chance left with any it’s important never to re-heat any baby foods as this can cause food poisoning, however, if it’s been left un-heated feel free to store unused food in jar in refrigerator for anything up to 48 hours. If you remain unsure about the Hipp branding you can log onto the website and request some samples free.
I buy lots of the Hipp range now as Christopher seems to like most of the foods so far, so a big thumbs up from me, good healthy food at a very reasonable price, it’s not too much to ask for I don’t think, so come on Heinz get your finger out, your falling behind the times.
Should you have any queries, contact the manufacturer:
Good review but I have to agree with the previous comment about the glass and D of H recommendations.

I feed my daughter Hipp jars when we're out. She loves them and I love the fact they they have more texture and healthier ingredients than some other jars.
