Why go to HMV? I think that you should go to the HMV store because of the friendly service that I have experienced at the shop in the past. The store does not just sell music though. Oh no, HMV is classed as an "entertainment" shop as it sells games consoles, Ipod's, DVD's and much much more which means that HMV is your must have store for any of these items. HMV shops are everywhere, there are 81 stores in just the South East, London way, so you will never not find a HMV store where there are lots of shops. Is HMV good value for money? HMV isn't the cheapest entertainment retailer out there but it certainly isn't the most expensive. Prices of products from the HMV website will differ from the high street stores and are normally about £1 more. The shop is great for refunds and exchanging products that are either faulty or broken. I have returned products before to HMV and have had no problems with their service.
What are the staff like? The staff in the shops are generally nice mannered and helpful. I once was confused as to where the CD i wanted to buy would be located in the store. I asked politely one of the staff if they could kindly point out the way and sure enough without any moaning or rudeness, the person helped me find what i wanted.
What about the shops? The shops themselves are very clean, easy to get around and generally "wheel chair" friendly. This is great as the store near me I like to go to has both steps and a ramp to get to the next section of the shop which makes the shop very viable for everyone. The shop space is good too. The products are laid out neatly and there are hardly no empty shelves anytime I've been. The shelves are easy to reach and not too tall for those of us who have shorter legs than most! The company colours, both black and pink are painted all over the shelves, floors and walls but doesn't look too loud.
Do you have to wait long to be served? In most of the HMV stores I have visited, I have not had to wait long to be served. There has been only one or two people in front of me with no one waiting behind. There are several tills at the checkout which means that more than one person can be served at the same time which also helps to cut out on the problem of queuing. The staff at the checkouts are pleasant and helpful always making you feel welcome back to the store.
I would definitely recommend HMV to a friend as they are helpful, easy to purchase from and give a welcoming environment in their shops.
You mentioned the online service... Yes, the online for HMV is very easy to use and great for checking the prices of a product before you go to the store to buy it. I have also purchased on the online shop. The transaction was easy, fast and delivery was exceptional. Despite the postal strikes a few months ago, my purchased items came within a couple of days of purchasing.
Advantages: Good Prices, Great Staff, Clean & Organised Store Disadvantages: CD Prices Are Slightly High
HMV has been one of those stores which I always go into every time I’m in town, and having to had gone to and from school through my local town centre, I used to visit HMV on a frequent basis looking for deals and bargains, of which there are plenty and it had become one of my favourite shops for the numerous reasons and having visited my fair share of HMV stores all over the North West of the United Kingdom, I have experienced the same quality of ... ...the whole chain of HMV Stores. This review is largely based on my local HMV Store in Chester, UK, however I’ve also visited other stores around the North West so my opinions and views are mainly consistent of those stores, but I imagine they don’t vary that much since they are a chain of stores made to look identical as possible. ===What Does HMV Sell?=== HMV is probably the UK’s leading media selling store, by media I mean, DVD’s, CD, Video Games ...

Advantages: wide ranges of different products appropriately categorised - easy to navigate, friendly staff, special offers Disadvantages: Newer products are a bit expensive in comparison to other high street stores, bad lighting
HMV seems to be a well established music empire, because even my mum knows that HMV stands for His Masters Voice and she has even gone as far to shop there! However established HMV is, it has a funky all-round image that would appeal to young and old, and is my first port of call when I'm looking for CDs and such. There a few things I love about HMV and a few things I hate: 1. One thing I love is that when you enter most HMV stores, from the doorway ... ...stores are very modern, and HMV spend a lot in keeping their stores modern and up to date. I was distraught to be left without HMV when they gutted the building and rebuilt it which took about a year to complete. The original store was fairly small, and they had managed to buy some more of the building in which they were located and they expanded the building to include a second floor for videos and computer games, and they fitted some monitors on ...

Advantages: Lots to choose from, they have a lot of sales Disadvantages: Can sometimes be a bit pricey
HMV is one of the top high street shops in the UK, it is one of the main places to go for chart music CDs and DVDs, however there is a lot of competition with Virgin and supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco which all sell CD's and DVD's at reasonable prices. The HMV store in Plymouth is fairly large, there are two floors. When you first walk in, you notice that it is fairly dark inside...however you can still see where everything is! There is always ... ...What I like about HMV is that they seem to have sales every week, whether it is 3 DVDs for £20 or CD's for £3.99. There is usually quite a lot to choose from, most of the time I never see anything I want...but you can be lucky sometimes, especially if there is something you have been looking for, for a while.
The chart CDs are positioned against the wall and it is clear to see where the albums are and where the singles are. The singles are reasonably ...

Advantages: Great offers, huge selection in every store, helpful staff Disadvantages: Full price goods can often be found cheaper elsewhere
...I have ever been to HMV when there hasn’t been some offer on some of their products. Whether it is a 2 for £22 CD sale or a 4 for £20 video sale, there is always something from this, my favourite mainstream, chain music shops.
HMV sell everything you could want from a music shop and more:
CD’s of every genre – pop, rock, classical, alternative, easy listening, folk, world music, spoken word books, etc;
Videos of both TV and film, ... ...is a fantastic bargain;
HMV also has a large selection of computer and console games available.
There are a range of shop sizes. In Glasgow there is a couple of HUGE shops and also at least one littler one. However, like the old saying – size doesn’t matter – it’s what you do with it that counts!!!!!! All the shops, big or small sell a wide selection of products available.
If they don’t have what you want in store ...

As I have already mentioned, the choice of shops is excellent and to name just a few there are Argos, Beaverbrook's, The Disney Store, HMV, Debenhams, The Body Shop, Build a Bear Workshop, Monsoon and Next. There are also little stalls in the middle of the mall, and with over 20 to choose from, selling anything from original paintings, stunning jewellery, and beautiful cosmetics there is certainly something for everyone. Last Christmas they had a stall which sold hundreds of different Christmas baubles and they could be personalised however you liked. We had a few made for various aunts, etc, customised 'with love from the Wilsons'. A Perfect ...
Advantages: Cool, Fun, Modern, Nice Staff Disadvantages: Mainly in Large Towns Only
~~THE COMPANY~~
I am writing an opinion on Waterstones, the book store owned by HMV Media. The company has about 200 shops nationwide, mainly found in large cities only.
~~WHAT THEY SELL AND SERVICES~~
Well the obvious is books. Waterstones sell every kind of book imagineable, and if they have not got it, they order it for your or refer you to another shop in the area. Also, Waterstones sell gift vouchers for HMV and the Waterstones itself. Another great service is the gift wrapping service and the Costa Coffe shops in many of the larger stores, which tend to fall into the category of 60+ staff members.
~~ORDERING~~
You can order a book over the phone, over then net, or in the shop. Orders take about 3 weeks to arrive and it is free to sign up for a free ordering account. You must have one to order. You pick your book up ...

Advantages: Rewards for spending money I do anyway Disadvantages: Different system of rewards, points expire
Some time ago, when I walked into my Local (Cambridge) HMV, I noticed some posters advertising a little card, ?HMV Pure Points?. I wandered what it was, and so when I was paying for my purchases, I enquired with the guy on the tills.
The Basics
HMV Pure Points, as the name might suggest, is the reward card offered by the shopHMV. Like all other reward cards, you earn points when you spend money in store, or online, the remuneration rate is 1 point per penny. So, spend £2.99 and get 299 points.
The first difference to other reward cards, is that it costs money to join, currently this is £3.00, though when I joined, it was £5.00. However, what is a bonus to that, is that the spend gives you your first points. Since I had spare money at the time, I signed up straight away, though, I guess it could put some people off ...
