HMV.co.uk - now HMV.com, is one of the most competitively priced entertainment retailer on the web.
The Web Site
The web site itself is set on a black background, with the pink and white hmv.com get closer logo, and white dog logo featuring in the top banner. At the moment, the homepage is advertising the current sale deals, featuring music from £3, DVDs from £3, box sets from £5 and games from £10.
The site is very easy to use - everything is separated into different categories along the top of the homepage. The categories are: DVD, Blu-Ray, Games, Music, Downloads, Technology, Cool Stuff and now the new Tickets section.
It also features a search bar, which makes finding Christmas and Birthday presents easier to find if you're not entirely sure what medium the item is that the person is looking for! Very rarely do I not find the item I was looking for.
The site offers notification for items that have not yet been released yet. For example, if you are looking to buy an album that has not been released, you can enter your email address and they will inform you as soon as the album has been added to their catalogue.
They also feature a number of competitions throughout the year. These can be found if you scroll down to the bottom of the homepage - the link is on the left-hand side of the site.
Pricing
As HMV.com is based in Guernsey, the prices of the products are a lot cheaper because they are exempt from some VAT somehow - I don't really know the logic behind it but I do know the prices are good!
There are often deals and offers, and they also offer 10% student discount when you supply a valid NUS or HMV Student Card number. You cannot however have student discount on consoles and hardware (i.e. Playstations, iPods, DS's, etc!).
Delivery is free as well, which is an added bonus!
Service
I've been using the sight for nearly two years now, and am yet to experience any real difficulty.
They state that your parcel should arrive within 5-7 working days, and there's only been one time that this hasn't been the case for me. Unfortunately it was my mum's birthday present, so I was a little upset that it took longer to arrive, but then I did order it on 27th December, and of course the number of working days decreases due to Christmas, New Year and weekends, so instead of arriving on or before 3rd January (her birthday), it was here on the 6th January. But that hasn't put me off using their service.
Returns
As I said before, I haven't had any problems with any of the items I have purchased, so unfortunately I can't really tell you how smooth the returns procedure is.
Conclusion
I would recommend HMV.com to anyone looking to purchase entertainment media, as they are usually well stocked and deliver promptly. Prices are competitive and the items are well packaged. A great service.
