This range of print cartridges from HP is the bigger and better version of the HP300. Those of you who remember my stunning, wrongly uncrowned review of the HP300 will remember how it ran out after just 140 pages. Well, this time I splashed out on the upgrade.
Basically, these cost £30 each, although I picked them up on ebay for around £19 brand new and sealed. They are print cartridges that do a lot more than the HP300.
The black and white cartridge will give 600 pages of print (4 times what I got out of its baby brother at just twice the price). The colour one gives 440 pages.
The cartridges are tidy and easy to install – they just click into place. There’s no ink around and you won’t get ink everywhere which is ideal.
The quality of the ink is stunning – rich and dark, intense and thick, it looks brilliant. It never splotches of makes a mess, and only starts to go sporadic when it’s running out.
The good thing about these is you can get them filled for around £10 at most printer shops, which is ideal. I say that because there’s no point in refilling the HP300 for £10 because it will only give you 140 pages, but if you refill the HP300XL you’ll get the full 600 pages each time for £10.
The packaging is a bit over the top. Cardboard box, foil wrapper, paper instructions sheet- it’s all a bit resource heavy which isn’t great for the environment.
All in all, excellent printer cartridges, and certainly better than the HP300 range.
