As I make Wedding Stationery and greeting cards a decent printer is essential to me and my husband decided to invest in the HP C309g Photosmart Premium when it was on offer as he was sure that it would be more worthwhile and cost efficient to have a printer that used individual cartridges.
The printed takes the photosmart 364 cartridges in total the printer required 5 individual cartridges, a photo black, standard black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Generally I order from amazon at £6-8 each and they tend to last me 2 months which on average would give me over 300 printed invitations and inserts which isn't too bad.
The cartridges are available in XL format which are meant to be more economic but are double the price and when you have to buy 5 cartridges as you can imagine this is very expensive so I have just been buying the standard cartridges just like the one pictured.
I prefer to use HP branded inks to ensure that the quality is not compromised and if you do a lot of black and white printing it is ideal as you will only need to replace that cartridge more often,
The only downside that I have with the cartridges is the lack of availability in main stream stores I have to go to PC world or amazon to get the cartridges as they are not stocked in Tesco or other supermarkets which is a little disappointing but having access to amazon vouchers helps as I find that they are not too much more expensive.
The cartridges are easy to replace as they just click into place, and they are pigment based inks which ensures that the ink does not fade over time and the finished quality is amazing.
My only recommendation would be to opt for the XL it may cost you more but will last longer ideal if your output is constant.
