HP 92A - toner cartridge (C4092A)

The cartridge comes packaged in a large box with the toner type clearly labelled on the front, which is handy. The toner is secured within the box by two large cardboard holders and comes in package that closely resembles bin bag material!

In Use
This toner cartridge has been sensibly designed so as to make it a fairly easy process when removing an old toner and replacing with a new one. The toner itself slots into the printer, and so this means the old toner just needs to be removed from the holding slots in the toner bay and the new one put in its place. There is a plastic strip that needs to be removed from the new toner cartridge before it can be used or no ink will come out!

I can’t really make any argument against this point as my company has a policy of avoiding the use of non-HP replacement toners; therefore I cannot say whether a different toner type would have a dramatic effect on the printing quality or not!

Interestingly the toner cartridge packaging does not say whether there are any recycled parts used in the manufacture of this cartridge. If you’ve read my HP 03A toner cartridge review then you’ll know that the 03A is a toner cartridge that uses recycled parts. Going by this, I’m not sure why some of HP toners are using recycled parts and others aren’t! I guess this could have something to do with the technology involved, as there are two different printer types here, but if not it strikes me as a rather inconsistent policy!

In terms of reliability these 92A toners seem to perform well. I have yet to experience any problems with leaking toner or poor printing quality. The page life seems to be pretty much what HP claims it to be although this estimate of 2,500 pages can vary according to what printer resolution is most often used.

As with my 03A toner review there is only one gripe that I have, and that being the price Hewlett Packard are asking for these cartridges. At £40 this toner is quite expensive, although not as much as the 03A! The price of printer cartridges has long been an issue for consumers and it seems to me that nothing has changed. People are still paying a great deal of money for replacement cartridges, and after a short while this amount exceeds the price paid for the printer itself!

Conclusion
It would seem that the 92A toner cartridge is the best option to go for if you are using a HP 1100 printer. The performance and reliability of these toners I cannot really fault, but I have reservations about the high price that Hewlett Packard is asking us to pay for them.
