Advantages: Silly cheap, fast Disadvantages: Bulky, not ultimate print quality
...cheaper to run than a HP DeskJet or similar. The printer takes four separate ink tanks - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, so when 1 colour runs out you don't throw away any of the other two. These ink tanks do contain a lot of ink for around £28 each. Unlike most HP Deskjet and Photosmart printers you replace the print head separately to the ink tank so when you change an ink cartridge in this printer you are not also paying for a new print head. ... ...very easy – in typical HP style there is a poster with a step by step guide to follow.
The printer comes with drivers for Windows and Mac. The Windows driver is full of features (such as the booklet option mentioned above) and is very straightforward to use.
This printer is aimed at the business market (there's a clue to that in its name) however the price of it makes it a pretty good choice for a home office.
Why is the printer free? Well it comes with a set of print heads and print cartridges which would cost more to replace than the £100ish the printer costs. That’s not so unusual nowadays as printers tend to be sold as loss leaders. Where this one differs is in the features you get for your £0.
Speed - Excellent This printer is fast, very fast. Not quite as fast as a similarly priced laser but quite fast enough - around 18 pages per minute when it gets going on an average document.
Paper Handling - Excellent This printer comes with two input trays, that means you can have 2 different types of paper ready to use all the time. You could have a printed letterhead (if you use such a thing) in one tray and plain paper in the other. Or maybe white paper in one tray and envelopes in the other....even if you use both trays for ordinary paper at least you'll only refill it half as often!
The printer will cope with A4 or letter sized paper plus a range of envelope sizes. One paper tray holds 250 sheets the other around 150.
The ‘d’ in 1100d stands for duplex which means this printer will print on both sides of the paper automatically. This feature cuts print speed dramatically because the printer has to pause to allow the ink to dry before drawing the paper back in to print the other side. However it’s a useful feature to have, the printer driver offers a booklet feature which will turn an A4 document into an A5 booklet all ready for folding and stapling - very useful for printing PDF instruction manuals and saves paper and space.

Unlike most HP Deskjet and Photosmart printers you replace the print head separately to the ink tank so when you change an ink cartridge in this printer you are not also paying for a new print head. The print heads do require replacement but not very often (after thousands of pages) and the printer will tell you when it wants a new one. I would guess that colour prints on this work out cheaper than a colour copy shop so it’s ideal for printing runs of advertising flyers or similar.
Print Quality - Good This is not intended to be a ultimate photographic printer, its best at 'business graphics' - text, charts and tables, areas of block colour. However it doesn’t do a bad job on photographs. Text and graphics are really sharp even on cheap copier paper. A good homework printer!
Size - Poor This printer is a chunky beast, it’s not good for those short on desk space. But it is solidly built without any flimsy plastic bits to get knocked off, I know of one of these that has survived in a school for over a year with out any problems.
Noise – Poor Not usually an issue with printers nowadays but this one does clunk and whirr a bit when it’s going at full pelt. It’s understandable really with the speed it goes – not one for the front room if someone’s trying to watch the TV!
Other Notes The printer connects either via USB or parallel cables, neither of which comes in the box.
Installation is very easy – in typical HP style there is a poster with a step by step guide to follow.

Advantages: Super Quality 4800dpi printing at home Disadvantages: Expensive Ink, Quite Big and bulky
Having previously had a HP 1100 Inkjet at work, i loved it so much i bought one for home, the price of these printeres are a little high, but in my opinion its quite worth the extra money.
The set up and installation of the printer is very easy and so to is replacing the inks and heads should you need too.
I have owned a HP1100 for over 12 months now, Printing virtually every day and approx 20 sheets a day. I am only on my 2nd second of inks, you ... ...If you do buy HP inks which I would recommend, these can be around £20 per cartridge... be warned though, there are 4 cartridges... If you run a business from home or you need a better quality printer for what ever reason then I highly recommend the HP1100. Ive never had a problem with it apart from paper jamming but the way in which the printer is designed, its easy to get at anything that may be stuck. The LED lights on the machine are also intuitive ...

Advantages: Cost Effective, versatile and robust Disadvantages: Two sided printing not always good
...Thus I bought the HP Business Inkjet 1100, from a local shop which had them on discount for £150 inc. VAT and one very large Black ink cartridge thrown in. I was somewhat apprehensive but had taken advice and most people know the HP brand is quality so I went ahead and got it. The set-up was very easy and I had the rather large (19cm wide by 20 cm deep, when trays open) but attractive looking printer up and running in about 30 mins. The printer came ... ...one, one Magenta, one blue and one yellow. The supposed beauty of the different colours being that you only need to change the actual colour that runs out. One important piece of advice I would give is to ignore the warning lights for the low ink levels, simply because I have found that the ink continues to flow for a long time after they begin to flash, just use this as a warning for an impending change.
One feature of this printer is the ability ...

...but apart from that, the HP inkjet 1100d has got overall, great printing qaulity black and colour, great paper qauntity of storage and excellent speed with great qaulity printing.
When my workplace purchased this product , we were astounded at the value for money we got, as it cost us around the $200 mark, we wernt expeecting the brilliant qaulity we got. But to add to the great qaulity, i bet you're asking, "wel how much do the cartridges cost?" ... ...Unlike lexmark who sway you toward their printers with very cheap price tags, the cartridges are through the roof. so i'll leave it with you. I reccommend it though!!! get it quick!!!
Note: We have had this product at work now for around 3 months and we havnt had to change the ink, and we have printed off over 4,000 black advertisments,. ...

...blurred.
It uses modular HP printing cartridges, so no extra cost than normal really. Although im not the one who changes cartridges so I'm not sure how easy it is!!
It's no easier or harder than other printers to set up. It also has a 2 sided printing feature (which I never use) which saves paper.
It is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, NT 4.0, Me, MacOS 8.6 or later and XP
It is quite expensive and would be better used in a small business or ...
