These days printers can do so much that it can be confusing trying to choose between them. Do you need a printer that will accept the data card from your digital camera? Or one that will print onto blank CDs? Or something with a built-in scanner or fax functions? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, the HP 1000dtn isn't for you.
However, if you're looking for an all round printer that will handle heavy loads, produce good quality prints and won't cost the Earth, then this offering from HP is well worth considering.
The main advantage of this printer is the running costs. It has 4 seperate colour cartridges, meaning that if one particular colour runs out you only have to replace that colour rather than thrown the whole cartridge out. And though they're not cheap, they're big, and will you'll have to replace them infrequently.
Print quality is excellent for black and white and colour whether you're producing simple text or detailed dtp. Photo printing is also good, but doesn't match up to the dedicated photo printers.
On top of excellent print quality and cheap running costs, the HP Business Inkjet 1000dtn is quiet and fast (up to 23 ppm in black and white) and unlike many of its competitors is very sturdy and well constructed. It has 2 paper trays which is ideal for seperating different types or qualities of paper, and will print on both sides of the page. It is also suitable for use with networks.
For those who are interested mainly in printing photos, or where space is limited, there are better options for the money but this printer is ideally suited for the small business, or for a family PC that will handle large volumes of print.
