No office is complete without a printer, working from home a few days a week means I need to have everything to hand and when my recent printer died and became unfixable I was left with no option but to buy a new one.
I have always been loyal to HP printers because I believe them to be the best in the business, they are all designed quite similarly so if you are upgrading to a new one then there isn't usually much difference in how it works but what it does and how quickly it does it.
The HP Color LaserJet 3800n was recommended to me by a business colleague who himself owned one and he said it was sturdy, quick and reliable in a crisis, so being on a deadline for a presentation I purchased it for £429 which in todays market is great value for money. This isn't one of those £50 printers which will print 8 pages a minute and pacify the teenagers completing their homeworking, this for me is an all singing, all dancing piece of machinery which prints at a speed of 22 pages per minute in black and white and it averages at 18-20 pages per minute in full colour depending on your graphics. As I mostly print bar charts and pie charts I can expect it to print at 20 pages per minute without fail. The dpi is 600 x 600 whether you print in black and white or in full colour, so this is quite a serious printer and it suited me for my needs.
The tray capacity is slightly larger than my last model at it holds approximatley 250 sheets of A4 paper and there is a pull down front where you can put around 100 sheets of A4 paper to start printing. This machine doesn't print anything bigger than A4 but you can, I am told, use it to print onto envelopes, labels, and glossy photograph paper but other than A4 plain paper I have use it to print onto transparency sheets and it works brilliantly.
This printer comes with a USB cable which you use to connect to your computer and you need to be running Windows 98 or above for it to work, anything less than that and it will not work, so please read all of the requirements closely. It also comes with a full cartridge of black ink which to replace cost £78 and from that you can expect to print around 7000 sheets of paper and it had full colour cartridges and to replace each one of those costs around £100. So if you are doing a lot of colour printing then this could be a good printer for you because fro each cartridge you can epect to be printing around 6000 sheets.
The one downside for me from this printer is the quality of the photogrpahs which I print from time to time, although this is not a printer designed to print photographs initially I was slightly disappointed in the quality.
However on the whole this printer so far has served me well and is very easy to use, it comes with a complete guide to using it which is simple to follow with limited jargon and also with a years warranty. I purchased my printed from Euro office where I get most of my stationary supplies but it can be found online at most retailers within a similar price bracket to my own purchase.
