A company that i have recently done work for has purchased a number of these machine (my job was to set up the network, and install the computers).
On the outside: ===========
The computer case is finished in black and silver and makes it look fantastic! The computer is in a small form factor case, meaning it won't take up as much space on your desk as a normal sized machine!
On the front of the machine, there are the following ports: - Headphone - Microphone - 2 x USB 2.0
And on the rear, there are:
-4 x USB -1 x serial port - 1 x parallel port - 2 x PS/2 (keyboard and mouse) - 1 x RJ-45 - 1 x VGA - Audio In - Audio Out - Headphone - Mic In
As you can see there are lots of USB ports (6 in total)! Which is great as now practically any computer pheripheral has the option to be connected with USB.
On the inside ===========
- P4 3.2Ghz with 400Mhz Front Side Bus with hyper threding - 2 x 256MB RAM (Total of 512MB) - 80GB 7200RPM Hard drive - ATA100 Hard drive controller - AGP 8x - DVD & CDRW Combo drive - Intregrated Gigabit ethernet
The spec shows just how capable this computer is! The gigabit ethernet is very useful in offices, as it's exceptionally quick.
In the future =========
Yes, this PC is upgradable! There are a few expansion slots, however not as many on a standard machine because of the reduced size:
- 2 x full-height PCI - 1 x low-profile AGP 8X
It would be better if the 512MB of ram was on one stick, as then you could just add another stick of 512 in the future, but as it stands you may have to buy two more sticks.

A Three year on-site next business day guarantee for parts and labour is offered as standard (This beats most suppliers 1 year warranty!)
Conclusion: =========
Personally i am a huge fan of compaq machines, they are of an exceptional quality. And quite clever. Many including the one have custom made PSU's etc...
I found these pc's very easy to set up. And would reccoment them to anyone wanting a PC to use in an office environment. Lovely machine!

...The Compaq line of small form factor PCs have always been sturdy machines very suited to the business environment.
Compaq used to take care to design a machine without the frills, which would meet most standard business use. Costs were also kept low, and this made for a generally acceptable business unit. The D5xx range has never been targeted at the home user, and probably never will.
Unfortunately, this new machine fails to inspire confidence. Overall, there is nothing wrong with the technologies and speed of the unit. My real issues are around the casing and build quality.
Firstly, it is REALLY heavy. I suppose some may say this is an theft deterrent, but there is no real need for the weight.

...downloading since the day I bought it and have still found no change in its everyday running. It is therefore perfect for both use at home and in a business environment.
When you buy the machine you receive a free copy of HP Client Manager which is a web-based tool and lets you inventory hardware, monitory system health and upload drivers. A very useful tool at all times.
BEWARE: This is a stand alone desktop machine. It does not come with a monitor, a keyboard, a mouse, or any other hardware. As such it is best for those wanting to upgrade (me) or those piecing together their own system.
An excellent system for the price. I would recommend this to all PC users. At lowest prices of £400 (see Ciao) this really is the future of lower price desktop PC's....

Advantages: Fairly good spec for price, good room for updating in the future Disadvantages: Deceptive price -many peripherals not included. Also apart from processor spec not amazing
...equipment and any of the lower specs could be upgraded with your own hardware, as a plus side to this PC is that there is plenty of room to upgrade it without having to buy a new motherboard in the future.
In conclusion my friend found that after he'd bought all of the components required to make this PC work, it turned out more expensive and still lower spec than some other PCs on the market, however as I stated before it could be a good buy in some circumstances....
