I bought one for my first year at university and although it only comes with 512MB RAM an extra 256MB makes this a versatile computer that copes really well with anything I can throw at it from Games such as Half Life 2 which tend to be a bit too high graphic for most standard laptops.
It comes complete with biometricfinger scanner to let you log in which is not only shiny but very useful too.You might forget your password, but you don't tend to forget your finger!
There is a finger touchpad and two buttons plus a touch scroll section to the touch pad. There are also however 3 USB ports ( 2on the left hand side and one on the back) so if you prefer a mouse there is plenty of space to plug one in.
This laptop also comes complete with DVD/CD-RW Combo drive and built in 6 in 1 card media reader located on the front of the laptop that supports;- Multi-Media Card (MMC), Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick Pro (MSP), Memory Stick (MS), Extreme Digital (XD) and Smart Media (SM).
The underside of the laptop has ports for a travel battery and a docking bay making ease of use anywhere.
There are both an S-video and VGA output ports on the rear of the laptop aswell as a network port.
Maximum screen resolution for my model is 1024x768. Horizontal viewing angle on the screen is very very wide and is perfect for watching movies as no one sits at a bad angle. Vertical angle is fairly good too.
The screen surface itself is matt and not shiny which in my opinion is a benefit as you can still see the screen when there is some light behind you e.g. bright sun glare makes it a little harder but not too impossible to read.
It has built-in wireless that is very sensitive and just worked, no faffing around needed.
As for audio, there is an intergrated microphone under the screen frame. The speakers are very good for laptop speakers in that they do not sound tinny which you would expect.
There are hotlink buttons for volume up, volume down, mute, and presentation mode.
This laptop is still working faithfully a full year on from purchase despite the knocks and bumps it has been subjected to on the tube every weekend.

(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors,dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
