...After having used this laptop recently, I was impressed by the speed of the system with the 1GB Ram in Windows. The onboard (shared) video card is the Radeon Xpress 200M which is quite good for windows applications, and even modest gaming with share size set to 128Mb. The 100Gb Hard Disk drive is spacious, and well paired with the DVD-RWDrive.
This Compaq has several USB 2.0 Ports, Firewire, Ethernet, Modem, Wireless and an inbuilt Multi-Card Reader.
It comes preloaded with Windows XP Home, and is Vista Capable, meaning it will upgrade seamlessly to Vista when it is released.
The 15.4 Inch Widescreen TFT is crisp and clear, and has a max resolution of 1200x800 enabling great widescreen DVD Playback.

Advantages: Very good "bang-for-buck" Disadvantages: Basic software doesn't always work

The directions to install the hardware are fairly straight-forward, and mounting screws are included (but not mounting brackets). 5-10 minutes max will get you going.
The slight downside to this package is the bundled Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic and Direct CD. It works well, but, its basic. Good thing I've got a copy of CD Creator 5 Platinum, which is MUCH nicer.
Overall I'm very satisfied with this purchase, and it will continue to work well for a long time in my little pokey box.
If you're looking for something beefier, I recently purchased a HPDVD Writer Dvd300i (see my review at http://www.ciao.co.uk/HPDVDWriterDvd300iReview5383030) to go in my new HP Pavilion XL946 I now own. A nice DVD+/-RWdrive that is also worth the money IMO....

...! Do not think of saving any money...My first lap top was Armada and I was happy with that. I would say that you should ultimately get satisfaction for the money. Buy Sony or dell....I leave Compaq now!! I am happy with my Dell!

What I liked about this laptop:
DVDR/Wdrive, WI-FI , good battery, sturdy, HP Compaq brand
What I did not like about this laptop:
Its heavy so if you are travelling you will have to think twice before carrying this laptop with you, It is very slow. Only 2 USB ports. So, If you are using a mouse and a modem, you will not be left with any other USB port (E.g., incase you want to use a jump drive). The combination of low RAM, Windows XP home edition, Norton anti virus makes it exceptionally slow. So buy this laptop only...

...I brought the compaq presario 2500 one year ago. I found the compaq presario 2500 to be a great computer. I have used it every day for a few hours, and today it is as good as new. It is easy to use, and it is fast. It is also very easy to install new software onto. It also looks good and is designed well.
The compaq presario 2500 is very light and it is easy to transport from place to place. With all my travelling in the pass year the computer has been very durable.
The battery is not as good as it was a year ago, I used to get 3 hours battery life with heavy use, now I am luck to get one hour of battery life.
The notebook came with the normal stuff, the standard power pack, battery, the recovery Cds, software Cds, and a modem connection cord.
And the manual, of course that I did not even look at.
It has DVD/CD-RW hardware...

i currently work for a computer firm and we have had quite a few HP deskyop PCs brought in and installed for our clients.
The Hp desktops are very reliable and speedy machines, they tend to come complete with manufacturer software such as:-
- Roxio CD/DVD creator
- HP system software manager
- HP protest tools security software
The hp software is not really needed but the roxio cd/dvd creatpr is very useful.
This PC will be perfect for business use, and possibly a decent gaming machine.

this compaq presario was my 3rd desktop i have bought and it is the best!
it is fast, extremely good value!
i have made several upgrades to the standard factory pc, for example, i have put in another dvd-rw, and higher graphics card and 512mb ram, my pc is now very very fast for making home videos and alike!
i can browse the web, do homework, and carry out hundreds of other day to day tasks!
this computer comes with an excelent inteface for setting up your perfect home pc, and if/when i buy my next pc it is definately goin to be a compaq presario desktop pc!
if you are planning on buying this pc, you should have 50 to 70 pounds extra to send on another dvddrive and a better graphics/vdu card, but other wise an excelent piece of machinery!
