Usually lecture notes are around 6 pages and in a week there is around 6 lectures so all in all, just for lectures alone its around 36 pages. A colour inkjet lasts a little longer, maybe about 10 or 11 months, that's only because I primarily use black for most of my work.

A black inkjet lasted around 7 months, that's remarkable considering the amount in which I use it! A colour inkjet lasts a little longer, maybe about 10 or 11 months, that's only because I primarily use black for most of my work.
When printing it is a little noisy in comparison to other printers I've owned but it's not anything too loud! The other downside is that it isn't one of the quickest printers, it probably takes about 10/15 seconds per page for colour and about 7/10 seconds for a normal page of black ink. These times aren't too drastically long but I'm jsut comparing it to other printers I've used/owned.
Printing quiality can be set at low, normal or high, I usually use normal although low would is still good quality and obviously you could get more pages printed.
It is a high quality printer for printing out digital photographs, (2400 x 1200 dpi colour) this however does use a lot of ink, but considering the ink jets are soooo cheaply priced I don't really suppose this would matter!!
You are able to print on a number of things these include: envelopes, transparencies, labels, plain paper, iron-on transfers, photo paper, cards, just have to resize the printer and set it to the appropriate size and vous-la!
The cheapest price I have found a black ink jet to be priced at is only £14.99 considering the quality and how long the ink jet actually lasts I think this is a total bargin!!! A colour injet is usually priced around £17.99 in comparison to some lexmark printer cartridges this is obviously worh the money!
The maximum size of paper the printer will take is standard A4 size, so for a normal office printer this would be ideal.
Printer output is as follows:
14 ppm - black draft 7.5 ppm - black normal 0.8 ppm - black best 10 ppm - mixed text/colour graphics draft 3.5 ppm - mixed text/colour graphics normal 0.8 ppm - mixed text/colour graphics best 3 ppm - photo fast 1 ppm - photo normal 0.5 ppm - photo best
The printer is simple to use, just install the drivers in which you recieve on a CD-ROM and plug it straight into USB and off you go!!
System requriements: Apple MacOS 9.1, Microsoft Windows XP, Apple MacOS X 10.1 or later, Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000
When I bought this about a year ago it was priced around £70 but prices have fallen dramatically since then and you are able to purchase this now for around £45, given all I've said above it is an extremly cheap printer considering the quality in which you can recieve.
Advantages: Good value for money Disadvantages: A little noisy
The HP 3550 is what I would call the ideal printer for a student like me. I had purchased the printer in exchange for 2 HP cartridges that were bought for the HP 710c. Unexpecting miracles from this little thing and considering I got it for more or less £42 it has exceeded my highest expectations. The printer is 422mm by 142mm and weighs just 2kg. The HP website says that it is capable of printing 14ppm (pages per minute) in black or 10ppm when text/graphics. ... ...the times inaccurate. The HP 3550 is purchased with both the black and color cartridges in the box, which is good and certainly adds to the value of the product. Regarding the printing produced, well i think its fabolous. Once I had to print party invitations in full colour on photographic paper and was flabbergasted by the results. Lately I have had to refill and I chose to do this by injecting the ink with an HP Refill Colour Kit. I have to admit ...

Advantages: Small size, folding paper trey, easy installation, longer cartidge life Disadvantages: Couldnt find one.
...And look what I found. HP 3550 inkjet is something worthy of calling THE BEST. It's light, and very easy to carry. it's good for me as I have to travel a lot for my studies concern. It has folding paper trey, and the whole thing , while unfolded, looks like a panel and takes very negligible space on your table. Now lets talk about its services.
It has five different modes for you to decide your print out style and use of ink. They are:
Fast Draft ... ...for both black and colour)
Normal (600 dpi for both black and colour)
Best (600 dpi for both black and colour with photo REt colour output)
Maximum dpi (1200 dpi for both black and colour with 2400 x 1200 optimized dpi colour output).
You can use a vivid range of papers in this printers and can save your settings. That means no more hit and trial method to get the best result. Once you save it, it is there, for ever.
It comes with a software, ...

Advantages: Cheap, reliable, fast Disadvantages: None
The HP 3550 is a superb printer. Available very cheaply, it is an ideal printer for students and other home users. The print quality is extremely good, both in black and colour, text printing is very fast, it runs quietly and takes up very little space. The USB connection makes it straightforward to set up, and it is compatible with all the main operating systems. Unlike some other cheap range printers, it holds both the black and colour cartridges ... ...too. Picture printing is slower than text, and the quality is good rather than excellent, but this is a small matter. I’d recommend this printer to any student or home user – it has all the standard features, is easy to set up and use, is cheap to buy, and prints high quality documents. ...

Advantages: Size Disadvantages: Slow Printing compared to more expensive printers
...job indeed. The HP software is very easy to use, so I had no problems installing this printer. It was just a case of plug it in and install, and then start printing. But, if you are wanting a printer to print off large quantities of work etc. perhaps go for a bigger one that can handle bulk printing quicker. Even on fastdraft setting, it is not as fast as other I have seen.
I think cartridge life certainly isn't too bad. Put it this way, I have ... ...and still have half of my colour cartridge left. I print out quite a lot of text, and a fair few colour photos ...so I am quite pleased with how long the cartridges have lasted so far. I have no idea how much the printer cost as it was a gift... But if you are ever thinking someone needs a printer , this one really makes a good present as it is small, probably quite cheap (I'm estimating about £30, but I could be wrong !) A good buy ...

Advantages: cheap, decent quality, looks good Disadvantages: ink monitor is useless
...which is most unusual of HP printer.
It Produces really good quality on plain paper. Can print 6x4 photo size and they look like real photos on decent photo paper.
Also, print speed is pretty decent as well. Even on highest colour settings its not that bad.
Small so doesnt take up much desk space and looks quite nice as well.
Ink seems to last for a while which is good since replacement carts arent that cheap. Although carts are very easy to ...

variety out there especially on the web.
The black cartridge is 10 ml, which can give you up to 220 pages, depending on which option you use when you print. The colour cartridge is smaller for some reason and is only 8 ml can give you up to 190 pages, depending on which option you use when you print. So you have to buy lots of cartridges if you use it frequently.
The code for the black & white is 27 (C8727 Series) and the colour is 28 (C8728 Series).
