I recently purchaesd a Hewlett Packard 610C for £50 at Jungle and it does the job. I am a student and since my college started charging for printing, I calculated it is cheaper to buy one. One of the best points about this low cost printer is that you don't have to keep feeding paper into it as it holds 100 sheets. Printing text is very crisp and clear at 600x600 dpi at best and 300x300 at eco. Its very fast at printing to at a rate of 5 pages per min depending on the quality. If you need to print detailed pictures such as photographs, this printer is not for you. The resolution is only 300x300 in colour which makes the most handsome of people look like spotty teenagers (no offence I was one once). Printing in colour can also take a while longer. It comes with colour and black ink cartiages, easy to install software and a low cost very helpful hotline. I needed this helpline to print in colour. If when you unpack your printer you can not print in colour, try doing the obvious and take the blue tape off. I found this out after phoning the very polite and knowledgable helpline, how embarrassing. Printer cartiages cost £20-25 but alternates are to buy refill packs or non HP branded one at about a tenner. It doesn't come with a required printer cable but you can pick one up for £3 at Argos.
Advantages: Cheap to buy, Good at text work Disadvantages: Rubbish at photos, expensive cartidges
The HP Deskjet 610c is a budget range printer. I admit that’s the reason for which I purchased it.
The printer is quite a large bulky device, with both paper trays sticking out of the front, so it requires a fair amount of desk space. Two buttons are on the front of the case, an off/on button and a paper feed button. Loading cartridges into the printer is easy; just lift the lid and the carriage parks centrally for the cartridges to be placed ... ...carriage resets.
The drivers are easy to install from a CD and include a good range of tools; also a version of MGI Photosuite SE is supplied for photo editing.
The printers performance, however is of mixed blessings. Printing text this printer is great, offering quality black print that makes any letter or text document look near laser quality. Unfortunately its graphics performance is not as good, offering about average graphics printing for ...

Advantages: Robust, good quality Disadvantages: takes up a lot of space, expensive to run
The HP Deskjet 610c is a very good printer. However, it is quite expensive to run if you are using a lot of ink. The cartridges do cost a lot of money to replace, but you can get cartridges made by other manufacturers that are a fraction of the price and work just as well as the HP cartridges.
This is a good printer for home/small office use. It does take up quite a bit of space on your desk as there is a paper tray built into the printer itself. ... ...has never ever given me any problems. The only problem I have is if there is a computer error and the printer won’t stop printing out blurb at me!
If you want a printer to print out photo’s don’t buy this one, buy a higher quality model. If you want a printer for the kids homework and the odd letter, or have a small business and want to print out invoices etc, then this is the ideal, low cost printer for you! ...

Advantages: Good picture quality Disadvantages: prints page of crap for no reason.
When I frist got this printer I thought that it was a good printer. It proved me wrong after about four days. This printer randomly turns off and prints crap. When ever I turn it on it prints a page or two. Some times its blank, but most of the time it has four or five lines of letters they don't make since have any meaning. this printer also goes through an ink cartarge after about 100 pages of normal typeing. I sugest that no one ever by this printer. ...

...the photo quality paper from hP is poor. If you try and print on it you end up with a line of black on either side of the paper where the rollers of the printer has scraped the laers off.
I would however only reccoment that you buy this printer if you are willing to buy a photo cartrage as well. The color quality is nothing in comparison to the photo quality service that it offers. ...

Review of HP Deskjet 610c
Advantages: cheap, reliable, fairly quiet Disadvantages: not great for printing out on photo-paper
A top brand and a top printer.
You can pick these up for less than £50 now and with replacement cartridges relatively cheap, easy to obtain and simple to fit, there can be none better value for any student, teemager or PC newbie.
I'm not sure what the criticisms from others are about re: cartridges not lasting very long. I can only assume their printer settings are set at ultra-high quality, which will of course use up mor eink, but changing these ... ...menu that pops up in applications when you press print. Change the default to economy, because that is all you need most fo the time, then when you need a final good quality print for a letter or essay another ocuple of clicks and you can have a superb looking document with minimal fuss.
If you are looking for a cheap but reliable PC to get you started, or perhaps a second, back-up for the house, then you can't go far wrong with this model. ...

Advantages: High performance, reliability. Good value-for-money. Disadvantages: None
I invested in a Gateway Performance 650 system some 4 months ago. I purchased an Epson Perfection 610 scanner, and a HPDeskjet 840C printer separately to get away from the "cheap" packages offered by most of the popular retailers who include only low performance printers and scanners as a part of the deal. I went for a 30Gb hard drive at small incremental cost. The promise of delivery within 7 days was beaten by 2 days! The system was easy to instal, even for a relative novice. Everythiny worked perfectly first time, with no problems to date.
I feel the Gateway machine may not appear on the surface to be amongst the cheapest, but if the price of the cheapo peripherals is taken out of many of the "packages" on offer, the Gateway machine does offer good value for money. The consumers association also rate it as one of the most reliable ...
