The 6940 is the sort of a solid, reliable printer you would expect from HP - with very easy connection through USB. Quality of output on ordinary paper with standard cartridges is very good and, on the correct paper with the photographic cartridges, sufficient for reasonably good photographs. The lack of manual adjustment for alignment (or very little else) is a little alarming, but the automatic systems do work. Overall the 6940 (for an inkjet printer) is economical with cartridges - even though they can be hard to get and quite expensive when you eventually have to replace them. The black cartridge refills easily (although I've never tried it with the colour cartridge). Doesn't like particularly thick or rigid card. Looks like a high price for the specs - even at £80 - but it is quality kit. If you don't really need best quality photographic printing but a good, no frills, hardworking colour printer that will happily churn out decent printing (including good colour photographs) for several years this is probably for you.
