The HP DeskJet 895CXi is a perfectly adequate personal inkjet printer which does what one wants from a personal printer well; it prints.
At my workplace we have had several of these printers in use by single users for some years now without any major issues to note. Once installed and setup correctly, the 895CXi continues to run and run only ever requiring attention when out of ink.
In terms of physical appearance, the 895CXi looks no different to the raft of desktop inkjets Hewlett Packard produced in the late 1990s and early 2000s. A simple enough beige unit houses the printing wizardry and sits atop the paper tray. Paper is fed into the lower paper tray (capacity approx 100 sheets of A4) and once printed is ejected into the upper tray where the paper can sit while the ink dries. There is also a small slot provided for manually feeding envelopes, and nine times out of ten this too works without jamming!
At the rear of the unit is a door with twist-lock which can be opened to remove the odd paper jam (I have not found them to be a common occurrence with this model) an input jack for the supplied power supply, a USB port and a parallel port for connecting the printer to a computer. Although it is possible to connect this printer to a print-sharer for use on a network, it is not designed for heavy workloads and I would therefore suggest that this course of action is avoided; if you want a network printer there are far more suitable options out there.
In terms of print quality, the 895CXi is nothing special. A resolution of 600 x 600 is nothing special these days making this particular printer best for printing letters and very simple graphics on a small scale. Photo printing technology has moved on considerably since the 895CXi was first released, so if printing your prized family album, the 895CXi is not going to meet your expectations. The printing speed is again, nothing special at 6-8ppm, although this may be due to the relatively small internal memory (2MB) which cannot be upgraded or improved upon.
Thankfully, the print cartridges used by this printer are widely available, and re-manufactured versions can be picked up very cheaply. One of the biggest advantages of these old-style inkjets is that the printheads are incorporated into the ink cartridges, thereby keeping maintenance costs low. More up-to-date HP printers often require replacement of printheads and ink cartridges at extortionate prices.
There really is nothing out-of-the-ordinary or special about this printer; it just does what it says it will relatively efficiently and cheaply. This model of printer should now be available quite cheaply secondhand, and if looking for a simple-to-use device, then the 895CXi may be what you are looking for.
I use this printer at work for all my reporting and I have to say it is really a good printer to use. This installation was so easy and the drivers were very, very easy to install. When I installed it I had to align the print head so that I would get the best possible print from it. I easilty added both print catridges and from that day on I was making proffesional prints for my managers and collegues. I would reccomend this printer for anyone who ...

Advantages: Good print quality Disadvantages: doesn't like envelopes very much
We've been using an HP 895CXi in our office for about 2 years now and on the whole it's been a good little printer. Although this isn't a dedicated network printer, it can be shared via a Network so that several computers can print to it through one machine, which is quite useful as most fully networked printers come in at a much heavier price tag than the 895's modest(ish) £200.00.
The HP software is, as always a doddle to install and set-up - ... ...work for itself, and the HP toolbox enables alignment of cartridges, troubleshooting, cartridge cleaning and a number of print tests to make sure that the printer is running as it should. The print software itself offers all the usual options such as print quality, ordered printing & page orientation etc so will cope with most if not all print situations & requirements.
This printer handles both colour & B&W documents well due mainly to the fact ...

When I first started using computers and accessories finding the perfect printer to do those excellent quality jobs was a task. My first printer being an Epsom I figured this was the best I was going to get. The print quality was fair but I wanted that extra quality and also for a printer that came in the package the ink was so expensive. I started working for a firm that used Hewlett Packard and thought the quality was excellent! I used that printer ... ...make notices for the workplace. I had to have one for myself at home. I checked around for prices and gathered I would have to pay that little extra for the top qaulity that I wanted and to be hones for what you get with this printer it is well worth the money. I have never had any trouble with it and the ink lasts forever and is half the price of the Epsom ink! For excellent quality, cheaper ink and relaibility pay the little extra for this printer. ...

FORGET ABOUT THE NEW-FANGLED PRINTERS, THIS ONE IS THE BEST PRINTER ON THE MARKET! I'VE HAD MY PRINTER FOR OVER 8 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT. I OWN A BUSINESS AND PRINT OUT LOADS OF PHOTO QUALITY IMAGES AND DOCUMENTS. I SELL PRODUCTS PRINTED ON THIS PRINTER. I RECENTLY HAD SOME OF THE WORK PROFESSIONALLY PRINTED AND THE IMAGES FROM MY HP DESKJET ARE SUPERIOR TO PROFESSIONAL PRINTING.

The printer right now is sitting right in front of me and I print things off it all the time. It has amazing colour capabilities and it prints almost like a photograph. I like this printer a lot and I recommend that you buy it if yoyu want a good printer and have the money to fork out for it. The printer costs around $200US and is definately worth the money because, well, it just prints well. So if you are wondering what to buy someone for a present ...

Hewlett-Packard has a USB-ready, dependable printer that can produce professional-looking prints in color and black and white. The Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 895Cxi color inkjet printer fits the bill for offices that are small in size, not importance. Its compact design and quiet operation are ideal for small workspaces, and its Universal Serial Bus and parallel interfaces provide connectivity options. The 895Cxi is the identical printer to the 895Cse. The Cse is only sold through retail, the Cxi is sold by resellers. The only difference is the software included. The 895Cxi comes with HP Printing Essential Kit: Office in Color for medium and large businesses. The Cse comes with HP Printing Essential Kit: Office in Color for small businesses. This desktop printer handles large workloads with its 3,000-page monthly duty cycle and 2MB RAM and 48KB receive buffer. It prints in color and black at 600 dpi, with three print modes: EconoFast, Normal and Best. Fastest print speeds are 10 ppm black and 6ppm color. The DeskJet 895Cxi can be used for color photo printing of photo-quality images with its exclusive PhotoREt II color layering technology. ColorSmart II technology automatically yields perfect color to produce on paper the colors seen on the screen. For text and monochrome prints, the 895Cxi produces crisp blacks and subtle grays even on plain paper. Plus, the exclusive HP print cartridge inks dry quickly for less smudging on prints. The printer comes with one black and one color ink cartridge. The 895Cxi input paper tray holds up to 100 sheets or 15 envelopes. Print on plain and special papers including card stock, envelopes, labels, transparencies and even iron-on transfers up to 8.5x14 inches in size. A continuous feed feature also prints banners. It includes scalable typefaces in portrait and landscape orientations. A unique feature of the DeskJet 895Cxi is the HP instant Delivery Software, which lets you schedule automatic delivery of Internet publications directly to the printer. The DeskJet 895Cxi connects with either a standard IEEE 1284-compliant Centronics parallel port or Universal Serial Bus port (see Accessories for cable). It is compatible with Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98/95/3.1x and MS-DOS applications through Windows 98/95/3.1x. The 895Cxi is network-capable with an optional HP JetDirect external print server. Hewlett-Packard backs the DeskJet 895Cxi with a one-year warranty.
