The time had come. My little cheap printer, which came with my computer, had finally given out on me so it was now time to purchase a low cost printer. My criterion was simple: I wanted a low cost, quality colour Inkjet printer from a company with a good reputation for reliability and support. I am not a mechanical person at all so I really need something which was going to be super easy to operate. This was a couple of years ago now. I went out not really knowing what I was going to buy and ended up coming home with the Hewlett Packard HP DeskJet 930C printer and £135 less in the bank lol.
I took the printer home and opened the box. Inside were the printer, power cord, colour print cartridge, black print cartridge, print software, users guide and Quick Start Poster. Be forewarned, the printer does not come with an interface cable. The printer was very easy to set up. It can be connected with parallel or USB hook-up.
The software was very easy to load. You just put the CD in the CD-ROM and it guides you step by step from there. In a matter of minutes the software was loaded on my computer, ready for use. Just about any software system will work with this printer as far as I know, but the best operating system is of course Windows. As far as word processing programs are concerned, I found the Microsoft Office package works the best. Word, Excel, and even PowerPoint have given me no problems whatsoever.
The top of the printer lifts up, making ink replacement super easy. Even a mechanical dummy like myself can do that with no problems. On opening the top cover of the printer, the print head moves automatically to the middle of the printer, you just slip the old one out and the new ones goes right into its place by pulling it from the top corner downwards. You can also check how much ink you have left in your ink cartridges. It will tell you when the ink is low and when you should have more ink ready to replace your cartridges. Replacement ink cartridges are expensive – approx £20 for black and approx £22-£25 for colour. I recently purchased a refill kit for both the colour and black cartridges, but, as yet, I haven't had the occasion to use them, so I don't know how they will work out.
If I were redesigning this printer, I would make the black ink cartridge twice the size it currently is. I think it was designed for colour printing, as the colour cartridge is quite large. So, be prepared to spend money on colour cartridges if you are going to use this printer as a colour printer.
If needed, you can calibrate the printer, which will give you the best possible print. It is automatically done for you when you replace the ink, but if it is misaligned you can do this and it will take care of it. It takes about two minutes and will use one sheet of paper. If your printing comes out streaked the print cartridges may need cleaned. This will take about two minutes and only uses one sheet of paper.
I used to have paper jams all the time with my previous printer but this rarely happens now. I have found if I try to load the tray with too much paper it will jam. If this happens it can be cleared by pushing the paper jam button situated on the top right hand side. I keep the paper in the tray relatively low and I have found it works out much better (the 930 can only hold 100 sheets of A4 paper).
You can set the type of print you would like your printer to print in. You can use draft to save time and ink, normal for most types of everyday printing and best gives you the highest print quality. This printer has some nice features: you can print in Portrait, which will be a vertical print out, Landscape to print horizontally, or Mirror Image to reverse the print image. You can set it to automatically print two-sided documents. When printing a two-sided document you can select the Book method, which allows you to bind the pages on the side or Tablet if it will be bound at the top. You can also print in different shades of grey. By a simple click of your mouse, you can easily change the brightness when needed or add extra drying time. It has the ability to print envelopes, transparencies, banners, cards, labels and sheets.
Oh, and did I say it was quiet? You won’t believe how quiet this printer is. My old printer was loud. This one prints so quietly, it is almost silent - it could easily be mistaken for a laser.
I have printed scanned photos onto photo paper and was extremely impressed with the quality I got: they are vibrant without being too glossy. The PhotoRetII technology really helps with shadows, layering, and textures. The 930C has the option to use a higher resolution when printing photos, 2400 x 1200 dpi. I printed my pictures out using this, and they are great! The printer however is slow when printing out photographs, but the quality of the printed picture is unbelievable; it really looks as if it was developed from a negative. I still cannot believe the pictures I print come from an inkjet printer.
Design-wise the printer is 17 inches wide and 10 inches deep. Extending the paper tray adds 6 inches to the depth. The paper feeds in at the bottom and returns there - a design I find superior to the top-loaders. In humid weather top-loaders tend to allow the paper to curl and flop over. In the HP DeskJet 930C this will not be a problem, since the paper is lying flat. This unit is stable; it does not shake or rattle, like most Canons or Lexmarks. The 930's small footprint measuring 44x40x19.5cm and curvaceous design do not look out of place at home. Its understated grey plastic casing accompanied by a further three protruding grey buttons does little to contradict this assumption. The paper tray even folds up against the printer, to prevent dust from having its wicked way when the printer is not in use. This creates more desk space (a nice touch). This tray is of a fragile build, which is a cause for concern. It is flimsy and brittle to touch, I feel once the tray is down it is safer to stay that way.
Buttons & Lights:
The buttons and lights are located on the top right of the printer.
Cancel Button ~ has an X on top of it, use it to cancel something that is currently printing
Resume Button & Light ~ the light will flash when you need to put in paper or if you have a paper jam, use the button when you want to re-start the printing
Power Button & Light ~ turn the printer on and off, when the light above the button is flashing the printer is in process of printing
On the downside, communication between the printer and the computer is not the speediest or the most reliable. Sometimes it is virtually impossible to work on another document when printing .pdf files or high-resolution digital images from Photoshop. Printing a text file is fine though and I find it far easier to take a break and have a cup of coffee & biscuit when printing graphic-intensive files.

So that's it -- nothing but good stuff. I have had no problems with this printer. It has been used daily for 4 years and it just keeps chugging out quality prints. The 930C is worth every penny and a bit more.
Advantages: Small, quite fast, quiet, very high quality printouts and now VERY affordable Disadvantages: Cartridges are expensive, but last a long time
I bought my HP 930c printer as part of a package from Dell Computers in October 2000. At first I was disappointed because I had wanted an Epson printer because from my previous experience they seemed much more reliable and the ink lasted longer. However, Dell had stopped stocking certain parts for the Epson printers they sold and they couldn’t send me one. So I opted for an HP in the same price bracket – the HP 930c at the time the printer cost me ... ...I spoke to said that HP printers didn’t come with their own parallel cable, so I bought an extra from Dell. When the printer arrived and I unpacked it from its’ box, it did have its’ own cable. The HP cable was shorter than the Dell replacement, but I personally don’t need a lengthy cable as my printer sits on my desk and it isn’t 4 or 5m away from my computer :) I proceeded to unpack the printer, removing the safety screws etc, with the aid of very ...

Advantages: Seperate balck cartridge Disadvantages: Single colour catridge
I have owned my HP 930c printer for a number of years, and it is still going strong! When purchased this printer cost around £130 and at the time was one of the top printers available.
The printer has separate black and colour cartridges which is useful as most of my printing seems to be black and white. One drawback is that the colour cartridge is a single cartridge containing all threee base colours which means that if one colour runs out a whole ... ...search around the web. The HP cartridges tend to be more expensive as the print head is integral to the cartridge, I find this good as you know that the print quality will always be as good as new, if the print head remains in the printer as it does with Epson printers it can degrade over time, allthough you can replace them.
The printer is not particulary fast doing around 4PPM but this can go up to 9PPM if you go to draft quality for balck and ...

Advantages: Smart-looking, quiet, dependable Disadvantages: Some anomalies (see review)
Having reviewed my Hp Deskjet 845c printer the other day, I thought I might as well review my other printer- an HP Deskjet 930C, which I believe is a more recent model, although we've had it a while longer than the 845c. Again, it cost around £100 or so.
Firstly, everything general I said about inkjet printers in my review for the 845c still holds true, so please see that review for those details. Instead I just want to concentrate on the differences ... ...As with most other HP models in the recent range, you can change the print cartridges by opening up the lid- and the inkjet nozzle apparatus helpfully comes out to allow you to take the old cartridges out and put the new ones in. Replcaing the cartridges is there quick and easy.
The tray doesn't hold a great deal of paper, but this is generally true for most inkjet printers. If you're wanting to print off 1000 sheets in a big hurry then you really ...

...on copier paper with the HP cranked right up to the highest print quality (1200 DPI, I believe).
The finished picture was excellent, and I now keep it to show customers how good the printer can be even on cheap A4 paper.
Now I'm gutted! I went out and bought an Epson 700 Photo about a year or so ago, and the comparision between the two, well the Epson has 2 extra ink colours, so the skin tones should be better. They are not. The Epson takes much ... ...mins, where as the HP 930C can do the same picture in around 7mins. So, if you're printing a few pictures the time saved is alot!
The downside to this printer (HP930C) is that the cartridges are expensive. The colour cartridge can cost between £20 - £28 and the black can cost about the same. But to justify this, when you change the cartridge you get a new print head, so therefore the print quality is the same as the day you bought it! Unlike Epson ...

...a few problems with the HP 500 series etc but when it came to the 560, then the very widely used 640 HP were getting their name around and now, most companies that I know use HP printers. The HP930c is probably the best printer I have seen to date from HP. It looks nice (have you notice how everything seems to be going curvy in the world of computing?! Nothing’s square like it was before!) it print’s fast, gives you a good clear print ... ...is a new feature for HP printers but it’s old news for Epsom printers who have been doing the same thing for ages. I’ve figured out that I can fold it up with the paper in it aswell, I don’t know if I’m supposed to do this though, so anyone who knows could you tell me please? It doe’s make the paper curved though! The software you get with the printer is good as usual. You get three types of print mode for normal printing ...

Advantages: None! Disadvantages: Bad service, noisy, slow, flimsy, breaks way to easy, uses way too much ink!
number (a miracle that that actually worked), I was informed that it would cost £90 to repair! What a rip off, the printer only cost me £150 new.
Don't buy an Epsom printer, they are over priced for what they do, quality is not as good as Hewlett Packard and the support you get is none exsistant, also the ink cartridges are more expensive too!
I have just bought a Hewlett PackardDeskjet930c colour printer and couldn't be happier, it is quicker, better quality, only cost £130, the ink is cheaper and it also takes up less space, oh and it is really quite in comparison to the noise that Epsom printers make.
I always found it hard to choose between the two companies, but now know that there is no choice to be made! Hewlett Packard win every time! ...
Having had my old HPDeskjet930c printer for a few years, I was getting more and more fed up of buying printer cartridges that were nearly as expensive as buying a new printer. Not only that, the printer had suffered a lot of abuse over the years and it was becoming prone to numerous paper jams. So, with a few spare pounds in my back pocket I decided to search out a cheap alternative, where upon I came across the HPDeskjet 3940 colour printer for under £40.

This is a very compact printer which, with a height of less then 15 cm and a depth of just 18 cm, will fit into many small gaps. The main body of the machine is a very pale grey, with the centre lift up lid being nearly white. At the bottom left hand side is the power on switch, which lights up green when in use, and in the middle is the paper loading ...

Advantages: Great quality, speed. Disadvantages: It broke down on me, Epson Printer Port
, they always send you stuff afterwards like an extremely expensive Guarantee. Oh well, that's PC World for you.
In the box, you get the printer (naturally), power cables, manual, one colour and black cartridge, and 2 CDs, one being the driver disc, and also holds software called High Quality Images, that should show how good the printer is (shame you can't use this on other printers for comparision), and the second CD being the online manual, and that's quite good in my opinion, as it was easy to use. Oh, there's a sampler of good papers, as in Photo Papers, in A4 and 6in x 4in.
Now the printer. The Printer is kinda bulky in my opinion, and is far bigger than my current printer, the HPDeskJet930C the one that replaced this ill-fated printer. There is only the Parallel connection on it at the back along with the power socket.
