As I was already buying an Hewlet Packard computer I thought it best to go for the same make in printer. I'd previously owned HP printers and found them of a very high standard, this purchase was no exception.
I was pleasantly surprised with the 970cxi. The quality of printing, especially the photo printing when used with HPs photo paper, was amazing. No banding or dots and clear colour all round. It was so good that I even used the printer to produce my own wedding invitations, saving hundreds of pounds and looking even better than some of the professional ones. It also meant that I could put a picture of the church in the invitation, loosing little in the way of picture quality on the small invitations.
The printer is fast and easy to use, the build is good and there are connections for both parallel and the now-important USB leads, meaning that both PCs and Macs can connect up to the printer easily and quickly. The software tells you when the ink cartridge is about to go, but I’ve found that you can get far more life from it by leaving the cartridge another few weeks (perhaps it’s an attempt by HP to get more money?!)
For a home system this HP printer is perfect and the quality of printing, especially pictures, has not been beaten by any of my other printers outputs, although some Epson printers I’ve seen are now on a par for output.
