Ok then, I got this printer as part of a common PC package from PC World, but I'm informed that you can buy it for £72 at Amazon, if it hasn't been discontinued from the stock as it might well have been.

The printer's dpi (dots per inch) is 1200 x 1200, which is not bad at all, and on print outs of color pictures, you can really see the difference it makes. The printer can take three different types of Hewlett Packard ink cartridges: Black (number 56), color (number 57), and photo (number 58).

The cost of them are around £20-£25 each, so a little bit of advice from me is to get them refilled once they have run out. And on the issue of them running out, since when I first got the printer in October 2002 amazingly the ink cartridges haven't run out yet, puzzled? So am I.

The printer uses a USB port at the back of your processor, not using a fire wire cable, which it doesn't come with. The main reason for that is that, since USB 2.0 has arrived, it has by far outpaced data transferal between PC and printer. The printer can print off 17 black and white pages per minute, and 12 color, but be warned, it's only around this speed when the cartridges are full, and if, like me they are nearly finished, it’s around six or seven black and white and about three or four color a minute.

The software that it comes with is easy to install, and has a wizard which helps you along the way, and also the help feature is good to. This printer has a special door at the back, so that you can easily take paper out, in the situation of an internal jam, and the printer will automatically alert you to it.

The only quibble is that it doesn't have a memory card insert function, but that’s only for lazy people, and anyway you might aswell store digital camera photos on your computer, and it's just as easy to print them off from there.

All in all, a great printer!
