HP HD DVD-ROM drive

Advantages: CAN PURCHASE VERY CHEAPLY AT EBAY
Disadvantages: NO LONGER MADE AND NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY HP

...We bought an hp omnibook 600 from ebay with warranty about four years ago, when we tried to get the warranty extended we were told that hp no longer support them so beware, we needed a new computer and a laptop is portable so we decided to buy one, this was our first laptop and my husband still uses it now, although its old it still looks as new, no dead pixels, very lightweight, my husband uses the internet a lot and this was ideal for him. Although they are no longer covered by hp if you get one and look after it theres no reason that it wont last you, ours is older than four years old, and the spec isnt brilliant but it does its job, we have never had to have it looked at. ...electrical plug on it so I had to wait another two weeks for the proper replacement. Now the CD Rom has stopped working & will need to be replaced, it the space of 30 months this machine has proved to be pretty unreliable considering that I do take care of it. I find HP's customer service non existent & although most items have been replaced under warranty the company drags its feet when you want decisions made regarding the warranty. Although I have a HP printer & HP PDA, the expierence with this lap top & the poor customer service would put me off ever buying another HP product. Recently when I purchased my own lap top I went for a Sony Vaio which has proved 100% reliable & very light to carry around.... Read review

Advantages: Excellent Computers
Disadvantages: Can be a Bit Fiddly to Work On

...XP Home Edition, which is the must have Windows of the minute. They have a DVD Rom and a CD-Writer, though on some models these are not seperate. The HP's also come with an AMD Athlon processor which is a very good and reliable one. The only thing that I will say is that whatever the speed of AMD is shown on the front of your computer isn't the actual speed that you have. My wife's says that it is 1600+ whereas it is in fact a 1400. Apparently AMD love to enhance the look of things, speed being one of them. Whatever size RAM you get it is very easy to increase as the HP's have slots that make it easy to add and remove RAM chips as and when you want. The Hard Drives are also very easy to install, should you want something bigger, as they just unplug remove and replug the new one. They also come with an internal modem that makes... Read review
