The HP 2004 StandardKeyboard is the basic, bog-standard input device currently shipping with HP Compaq entry-level desktop PCs such as the dx2400. Being that the PC supplied is a no-frills machine, it is little surprise that a no-frills peripheral is included. Remember that this is a PC-only peripheral.
~~~ Appearance ~~~
The keyboard is a fairly innocuous affair with black keys, black housing and a silver highlight plate which occupies the upper third of the unit with a black HP logo in it's centre. The keys are relatively shiny with each letter picked out in white paint. Being a full-size keyboard, the majority of the unit is occupied by the letter keys with a separate numeric keypad set to the right. Right the keyboard which matches the HP7540 Screen and the HP Compaq Business Desktop dc5100 Desktop. A similar gray/silver and black colour scheme to the other hp stuff I've reviewed and tbh a similar feel to it, of being an office device rather than a keyboard made for gaming and like all HP products it's very effective.
The keyboard despite looking ordinary enough, isn't, the number pad on this one I'm using is seperate (well attached by a cable as opposed to a one peice keyboard), which is just complicating things from the off. I can only assume the idea is to save space in an office building and have people use the numbers above the letters, which if it is, then why have a number pad full stop?
The quick buttons alluded to in the "advantages" section for those unfamiliar with them, are buttons you press to say go to the home ...

I have been using this keyboard for about a year now, and it has performed as any keyboard would be expected to; It has a full set of working keys. Not particularly demanding requirements, but it's the price that really sets this keyboard apart from the rest.
Presentation: The labtec standardkeyboard comes in black and is straight and very geometric in design. It offers no curves on which to rest your hands for comfort when typing. However, for me, this has not been an issue. The figures on the keys are printed in white and stand out easily against the black base coat. In the top right corner of the keyboard are the the num, caps and scroll lock lights, which are lit up green when the according buttons are active and stand out brightly against the dark surrounding. The HP 2004 Standard Keyboards represent a design extension of the successful Easy Access keyboards. These keyboards have the same layout and tactile characteristics as the previous keyboards, but without the hot-keys. Instead, the HP 2004 Standard Keyboards introduce expanded configurability by allowing the keyboard to sit upon the desk at either zero-degree (flat), 6-degree or 12-degree slope through the use of the keyboards tilt legs. The HP 2004 Standard keyboards also simplify System Administration tasks as no additional reprogramming or redirector software is required to be maintained or supported with these keyboards. The keyboard software device drivers are an integral part of the client operating system.
