~First impressions~ ********************** Remem ber the bad old days when new appliances came without a plug, and if you were foolish enough not to buy a separate plug, you had to wait till the next day (and the opening of shops) to purchase one and be able to use your brand new toy? Well, I was certainly reminded of this when we unpacked our new HP LaserJet printer. I checked everywhere, no sign of a USB cable. Perhaps a mistake at the factory? The box the printer came in details what should be inside. No, no mistake, this printer comes without a USB cable. After the initial annoyance, I am ... more

Normally I have no problems at all in reaching the minimum word count here, and in fact I would be very hard pressed to manage if it were a maximum! With the HP LaserJet 1020 printer, though, I am faced with an unfamiliar problem, that of what on earth to write about. You see, I could easily sum up this printer in a couple of sentences. Something like this: "This is an excellent workhorse mono laser for light to moderate text use. If that's what you need, than you'll be hard pressed to find better among its contemporaries." Still, it seems only fair that I write a little bit more than that, so ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact, Quick, Reliable, Good quality, Cheap Compatible toner

Disadvantages Disadvantages Official HP toners expensive, No cancel button

The HP LaserJet 1020 is a simple and compact black and white laser printer from HP. It superseded the LaserJet 1010, 1012, 1018 model s but as it has been out for quite a while, has itself been superseded by the LaserJet 1022 and maybe the LaserJet P1006 models, although mine is still going strong. The printer chassis has two shades of light greys and the body is quite curvy. It is small enough to fit in a book shelf, which is where I have mine. The trays stick out when extended but I fold up the paper feed tray when not in use. It only measures 370 x 242 x 209 mm so is probably one of the ... more

Advantages Advantages prints fast and clearly, good value

Disadvantages Disadvantages it's basic - but that's why I bought it!

*I love this printer* It's not flashy, it's not portable, it only does black and white and it doesn't do anything amazing. What it does do is churn out lots and lots of paper fairly fast with good clean printing. PC World took a little time delivering it to me (but they told me there would be a delay and refunded the delivery charge off their own bat, which I appreciated. On their site it also told me I needed to buy a USB cable, but I had one anyway.) *set-up easy as 1-2-3* I am notoriously bad at following instructions but I had this out of the box, set up, plugged in and printing the test ... more
