Advantages: Well built, toner lasts ages Disadvantages: Poor graphics, very slow
First off I was given this printer as they were replacing all of the old black & white laser printers with colour laser printers. I currently own two printers, one inkjet and this laserjet, which is the best option really as I can use one for graphics and one for text.
The LaserJet 4L isn't the fastest of all printers, if you're printing a large document with a fair few pages then it might be worth going to put the kettle on and getting a cup of ... ...a little bit like waiting for paint to dry. Even though it's not the fastest of all printers the quality isn't too bad if you're just looking to print text, if you've included images within your document then don't expect anything brilliant from this printer because as far as images go it really does make a mess of them.
An advantage of this printer is the amount of paper it can hold, I'm sure you've all gone to print something and the printer has ...

...going begging. They were HP LaserJet 4Ls. I was initially dubious, having heard hair-raising tales about the astronomical prices of toner cartridges, but if they were for nowt, what did I have to lose? Accordingly I rescued two - one to use and one as a spare. The "spare" is still unused four years later - although I did raid it for its toner cartridge!
With a maximum resolution of 300x300 this ain't the machine to use for graphics, but it's produced ... ...hiccup. It has printed on everything from indifferent quality photocopier paper to thin card, via labels, envelopes and transparencies.
Ease of use couldn't be bettered. You put paper in the drawer, close it, run your print application and quality text comes out of the top or the back - your choice depending on the paper you're using. Job done. Paper jams are very infrequent and normally down to this user using up odds and sods of tatty, creased ...

...about the price of an HP inkjet refill. If you shop around the toner cartridges can be found for about £25, not that you'll need many as they last for thousands of pages (and cheap copier paper will do). So buy one of these and use it instead of your inkjet printer it'll soon pay for itself in black ink cartridge savings and give you better quality type too.

This is another piece of kit from work that weve been using now for about 8 months. The poor thing has been dumped in the computer suite as a workhorse for the hoards of print happy kids who pass through it all day. Alas, it has failed the task - through more
