This machine does not come cheap, by browsing over the internet a website called www.printerland.co.uk is charging the beauty of £2,005.78!!! A cartridge for it costs £134.59!! Do not fear dear members, although this review is about a mechanical machine I will not be making it boring for you, I will spare you all the specs and grey details, what I want to do instead is to concentrate on the problems that this monster is bringing every day into the office. This way if you ever have to make a decision on which printer you have to purchase you might remember that this one is best be avoided like the plague!!
First of all this is a huge printer, and I mean huge... to give you an idea of its height, well it comes up to my hips and it is pretty large as well something like 80 cm, it is litterally a monster by size and monster by reputation!!
This printer has a display on it so for example if the cartridge is running low it does tell you to get a replacement before if fully runs out plus if something goes wrong the red light comes on to alert you something is not right, it has a cancel job button, a pause button.. this is all very positive…
Unfortunately much goes wrong with this machine, for starters the paper keeps on getting jammed at leat once a week, the IT people cannot do anything about this issue, it is apparently just one of those things you have to bear so what you need to do is to open every little door sometimes get the huge toner out just to double check a sheet is not just stuck somewhere you just can't reach.. The display sometimes tells you which area is jammed but when the instructions are not clear that is when you start hearing people opening doors/ trays slamming them closed, opening paper trays and the odd moderate swearing "For Pete's sake", "F. off", "Stupid machine" and so on…
Another problem we tend to encounter is when it so happens that we have to print documents on headed paper… because this machine not only does not work properly but also dares being fussy, there are certain trays you cannot use plus if you use the manual feed it will stubbornly not take the sheets unless there are more than 10, plus you have to shout to everyone on the floor not to print as if you launch a job to be printed choosing a normal tray with blank paper inevitably it seems to prefer to take the headed paper anyhow…
Another problem we seem to encounter is that this fussy piece of work is not happy to get its paper from the big tray (there are three of them), oh no, it only likes the two small ones which means you constantly have to fill them in with paper during the whole of the day…
Also if you need to print in landscape rather than portrait you have to go and press a button to confirm you are happy with the size… I mean.. just print the job will you???
Excuse me, I do not mean to lash out on this review but honestly this giant machine is such a baby!! Don't get me wrong, it is nice and fast but I had smaller machines which were faster and didn't need all these attentions, it does not even print double sided would you believe and it is just a black and white!!
Luckily I did not have to spend my money to buy it but if I was given a choice it would definitely stay in its own box in the naughty corner.
