Yesterday morning in school, i was printing a piece of work for my band when an idea struck me. I could review the printer i was using without forking out a couple hundred quid for one. After asking my teacher about it, i wrote down some details and found out the name. The printer in question was the HP OfficeJet K7100. It retails around £190 and was of far higher quality than the other school printers.
My experience
I was printing one black and white sheet of guitar tablature. There was not a lot of printing to be done and i expected it to be out by the time reached the printer. This, however, was not the case. It didn't take too long but for what i was printing i thought it was a while. (It took around 40 seconds). The quality was hard to tell as it was a plain sheet, but from past experience i know it can print in very good quality. A full colour sheet will come out in great detail and it can print photographs in great detail too. The only thing i will say was that it was a little smudged. Whether that was me or not i am not sure. It cost me 5p for a black and white sheet, although this was through the school. The real cost is listed below. I was very happy with my Media practical, a musicmagazine, that was printed in full colour. The cost of printing works out at 2.7 pence for a black and white sheet and 7.9 pence for a colour sheet. This is a higher than average cost for black and white but the colour printing works out more reasonable.
Summary
If you are looking for a printer that is better for quality than speed and low cost, this is one for you. It isn't the average family printer due to the high cost, I don't think my dad would ever consider buying this one, but for a home business or just for someone who needs great quality printing this would be great.
It is available from amazon for £203.75 new or £189 from the "Used and new" section. (Although it is also new from business called pixmania.)
Please rate kindly as this is my first review for anything like this.
