Advantages: Reasonable printing costs, quick print speed, very good quality in both colour and B/W Disadvantages: It could be smaller

It prints in 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution in black and white and 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution in colour.
In terms of desk space, it's about average - I find all HP printers quite bulky, but it sits nicely on top of a filing cabinet.

It's a good machine to have if you want a reasonable nod towards a colour laser printer, but don't actually want the expense and desk space of owning one.
It does colour printing of a very good quality - good enough for photos It works really well with HP photo paper (I've done a separate review of that if anyone is interested). It prints in 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution in black and white and 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution in colour.

Printing costs are not bad. You have black and colour cartridges and standard refills cost about £17 each. That's quite dear, but the large size refills are better value at around £24. They last me several weeks and I do print every day.
Speed of printing is very good for a printer of this size and cost. Black and white or colour take a similar amount of time (which is unusual, often the colour is a lot slower) - about 5 seconds a page. Draft printing is really quick - 2 seconds a page, again its the same for colour as for B/W - though i don't really know whhy you'd want to draft print in colour but there you go. Mine does double sided printing, which I always like, but the ink shows through if you use really cheap paper when doing that.
all in all it is a good all round value for money printer, on the better end of the printer spectrum. It hasn't jammed or gone wrong in any way, other than needing to press the reset button occasionally, in over a year.
Advantages: Provides fast and economical prints Disadvantages: photo printings not the best i have seen
At first I had a few problems loading the cd,it kept saying the disc couldnt be read, found out it was just a faulty disc which was promptly replaced (from the shop I brought it from)
As for the printer it does everything and more. You can get too types of cartridges for this printer, the standard ones which print about 500 pages and the XL cartridges that print about 2400 (thats a lot of printing)
My printer came complete wth 4 inks, and 2 printerheads ... ...So far I have printed off holiday photos, leaflets and flyers and I can say the printer is fast and economical,it prints top quality prints in next to no time.
In addition to the cartridges and printerheads this printer also came with an add on bit at the back which can be used for double sided printing (will come in useful I think!) ...

...problem. 30 minutes with this HP pile of poo and I was on the helpline already. Just refuses to load paper - any paper, any way up down or sideways. Total utter rubbish - like HP customer services and Misco, where I bought it. I've had plenty of experience with printers, and never seen one so badly designed, poorly made, or that would not work at all straight out of the box, brand new. It's a disgrace.
My advice: do NOT buy this printer. In fact ...

...2 days this also malfunctioned. HP echanged the machine within 10 more days with a reconditioned unit. I complained I didnt buy a recon unit I wanted a new one because the recon unit didnt work from the get go. I wouldnt buy a new car with 20,000 miles on the clock would you. HPOfficeJetProK5400
The HPOfficeJetProK5400 is a low cost, colour, inkjet, printer. It is aimed at small businesses and is a pretty basic printer. If you need to scan or copy then this is not for you but it will produce low cost prints. I used this printer when i printed some ICT coursework from my teachers office. The text sheets came out well and with reasonable speed. Next was a powerpoint presentation in handout form. This was a colur print. It came out in good quality and took a second or two longer than the text sheet. I was happy with both sheets so far. Finally, i had a photo to print. (This wasn't for work but it was a cool Iron Maiden photo that i wanted to stick on my wall) The photo took longer again to print and when it finally came out, the quality had let it down. Slightly smudged and generally tacky. I was ...
Advantages: cost effective, high volume printing for small office Disadvantages: Problem when trying to print double sided (duplexing)
Unfortunately, the HPOfficeJetProK5400dn printer features looked good on the website and I fell for it!
I ordered 2 HPOfficeJetProK5400dn printers for work. After setting up the first one, and testing it, it kept chewing up the paper as the print carriage was catching it when using double sided printing (duplexing), so sent it back and got a replacement.
The second one seemed to work fine except for the odd chewing of paper when double sided, but then after 3 weeks, did it every time - so sent this back also.
The first replacement worked fine for the most part for about 4 weeks and then starting chewing again so sent it back with the second replacement which I didn't bother taking out of the box.
This is why I would not recommend this printer at all. ...
